I vaguely recall 30+ years ago using the inner spring of a well known pen brand , which had roughly similar diameter as the trem arm thread , i cut the length down a bit , then I wound it right down in to the block thread and it put just enough resistance on the arm to suit my needs at the time ...

Not sure it’ll be any better but you can get adhesive lined heat shrink.. should take care of the movement issue
