Re: Have studios moved to using USB mixers for recording?
I genuinely know a couple of studios that use audio interfaces, but keep a 'comfort mixer'...

Re: Taking gear to the USA?
Elf is talking about using virtual instruments in his laptop all coordinated and controlled via Cantabile as the software host. Consequently, any USB master keyboard with a decent action can be used to access and control those instruments. All sounds, patches, programming etc lives only in the ...

Re: Taking gear to the USA?
For remote gigs I run my entire rig from my laptop (using Cantabile), so all I need are physical USB-equipped keyboards and an audio interface. What kind of music is this Elf? The only thing I know about you is that we share a penchant for Hedgehogs I'm afraid. Got a website or anything? Lol! No ...

Re: Taking gear to the USA?
Never had much a problem. I take a UK power block (mine has USB ports on it too) with a US power cable on it and most well-made domestic stuff (e.g phone chargers and laptop PSUs) just work. Hairdryers run slower and cooler at 110V, but you can get a US dryer for 5 dollars at the first supermarket ...

Re: Kurzweil K2700 Audio Recording to Sequencer
Welcome! :) The K2700's audio inputs are not really meant for this. If you did manage to use it this way you would find the internal memory disappearing at an alarming rate, and managing the recordings would be a nightmare. Also, the K2700's sequencer is far more complex and idiosyncratic than any ...

Re: Cheap MIDI foot controller
Looks like the M-Vave Chocolate that I own. I find it works well. It isn't wireless only - it's USB-C. Can it use the USB-C cable to charge from at the same time as controlling the device it is connected to?. Yes. Also does it send messages other than just MIDI? Like simulating key presses and ...

Re: Cheap MIDI foot controller
Looks like the M-Vave Chocolate that I own. I find it works well. It isn't wireless only - it's USB-C. The only crime the Chocolate commits is reversing the direction of an attached expression pedal, but that's easy to fix in my performance software. Thanks! I’ll get this and the M-Audio expression ...

Re: Synthesizer V, Felicia & Riku
Thank you for clarifying your approach.
It's surprising how even simple, but frequently used, key combinations allocated to Stream Deck can significantly help to speed up work. My Cubase profile makes me seem extremely slick!

Re: Eventide H90
I have software licenses I paid for irretrievably lost because of iLok. I've had to compromise on occasions, but I now don't accept iLok willingly. If your computer ever crashes and takes your 'on computer' (as opposed to dongle) iLok licenses with it, don't expect much help from iLok or the ...

Re: Help with Kurzweil K2700 FXMODS
Ctl A-D are actually 'General Purpose' MIDI CCs 16-19. If you scroll through the modulation source options you will find them listed in sequence between CC 15 and CC 20.

Re: Microsoft baking MIDI support into Windows
Installation of the afforementioned Korg driver [ ~2020] required me to strip out my usb devices, install the korg so it was in the top 10 USB devices, then reinstall all my USB gear. Thats not good. Same here, but I found a point where I couldn't achieve this. Every time I opened up a first ten ...

Got around to watching the video of the Windows MIDI 2 presentation. As soon as he reached the parts where things weren't working I began to see my future... :? Also nice to see Microsoft at last recognising ASIO. It's only been... how long? :o :!: Call me a wrinkly old pessimist, but I ...

Re: How to record track from CD and then remove section
For PC, EAC (Exact Audio Copy) would be a good choice for copying the data. It has features within it to make the copy as accurate and clean as possible. EAC is donation ware.

Re: Microsoft baking MIDI support into Windows
I've heard something about this in relation to the ridiculous Korg requirement for their devices to be listed in the first ten MIDI device slots (what year is this?). Apparently it will be important to keep the registry 'midi1' slot assigned to 'wdmaud2.drv' to make sure that all works as it should ...
