Re: In a real jam here, help please if possible

Probably a faulty cap in the power supply. Should be fixable but not a quick on the spot fix.

Re: Option for video playback

Hiring before buying would be a good first step. Pick something that seems to fit the bill, hire it, and see if it does the job. What may work well on its own may not work as well in the context of a gig with other lighting etc. You may find that what you may need might be beyond reasonable economic ...

Re: Sharp neck

I gave returned one item to Thomann and that was painless, but that was shortly after purchase.

But it’s rarely in the store’s interest to make a fuss over returns. It’s simply easier for them to give the money back or supply a replacement.

Re: Sharp neck

it does sound like the bridge has been set a bit too far forwards. It’s worth measuring the distance from the nut fretboard side) to the middle of the 12th fret. Double that distance is the scale length. The scale length should be the quoted 643mm (25.3”), the 12th fret distance should be 321.5mm. (A ...

Re: Quiet home recording solutions

I don't feel that any recorded guitar sound is going to be as inspiring to play to as having a real amp, but in the end, the recorded sound or a real amp will in all likelihood be the same as you get from a modeller or amp software emulating your own set-up. Can you try a quiet actual amp in the ...

Re: Best practice for using interface with two computers?

I’ve never used one, but I presume they are mechanically very simple. I don’t know if they have a break before make arrangement, to stop power from two computers being briefly connected together, or not. If so, the interface might reboot after switching, which is probably a good thing, as it pro ...

Re: Best practice for using interface with two computers?

You could probably get a cheap used USB audio interface for gaming for nearly the same price as a USB switch. Very low latency drivers aren't as important for gaming. I use an old Novaton NIO 2/4 for my gaming/general purpose machine. Are you using the same speakers for both, (which would make ...

Re: Change a stereo headphone out to feed mono to headphones - no boxes!

There's no power output for the headphone output given in the GX-100 manual, nor a range of headphone impedances it can drive. You only get a nominal -10 dBu (0.245v) and the output impedance of 44 ohms. You may need to make up a test circuit to see how much power the output can provide into ...

Re: Change a stereo headphone out to feed mono to headphones - no boxes!

You aren't just mixing a line signal as you'd normally do with passive mixing, as you are also interested in the power transmission to the phones. So you'll need resistors rated for more than the headphone power output, and you'll also want them mounted so they can dissipate the heat. I'm not sure ...

Re: Advice on building a P.A system

Hi and welcome. It would be nice to know more about the size of venue you plan to have your electronic music parties in. The bigger the venue, the more capable the PA will need to be to fill it. I can't find any info on the "SPL 15" speakers. Have you got a link to a website they feature on? Rather ...

Re: Rode NT2a shock mount - how loose/tight?

Can you not simply do some empirical testing? If you walk around the mic in its normal position in the studio and does it pick up any vibrations from that? What is the noisiest thumpiest thing you are likely to have in the studio (or location if recording elsewhere)? If you have a nice solid floor ...

Re: Idiot tries to build guitar!

34mm seems to be the shortest block you can get. They seem to vary from around £40-£70. You need a certain depth to it otherwise you don't get enough lever effect for the trem to work. The shorter the block, the more springs you'll need to counter the string tension and the harder it then is to o ...

Re: Idiot tries to build guitar!

IIRC there are two or three standard lengths for trem blocks. You can definitely get shorter blocks for thinner bodied guitars. If you have a standard length block, you probably will need a shorter one. Or you could file (or preferably mill) the current one down. At least there are no string holes ...

Re: Idiot tries to build guitar!

And (very prematurely) when knocking/pressing the two post holders in for the FR posts, make up a block that fills the trem cavity gap in the area below the posts. One of them should be OK as it's solid wood beneath it, but the other one mainly sits over the trem cavity and there is a tendency for ...

Re: Idiot tries to build guitar!

The trem cavity looks a bit on the shallow side to me. It could just be the perspective but trem springs are quite chunky and the claw needs a little room above and below it. So I'd double check the depth is sufficient. The trem claw screws will need to be drilled at a slight angle, so the trem claw ...

Re: Most accurate monitors under £700

I has Adam A7Xs and they didn't sound tiring to me. Of course it may well be if you are young and can still hear up above 16kHz or more then they may sound different to you than they did to me. But I put them side to side with my Genelec M040s, and they sounded pretty much the same. A power amp in ...
