Re: Bass trapping aound the lower edge of walls.

Random Guitarist wrote: Wed Oct 15, 2025 12:06 pmI've read you can never have too much bass trapping, but would this be overdoing it?

You read right... and you really can't over-do bass trapping. If you have the space available it's always a good idea to use it! The ceiling/wall boundaries are often unused space that can be utilised this way too.

Re: Noisy desk - all channels and outputs

I am getting slighly asymmetric voltages at the o/p though: +15.05V and -14.89V. Is that likely to be within spec?? Phantom feed is 47.5V... Yes, I'd say that's within spec and nothing to worry about. It might be worth checking for noise with a 'scope, if you can, but I very much doubt the PSU is ...

Yeah.... the lists are infantile bollarks. Clearly, manual jobs of all kinds can not be performed by AI... As for the rest, 30 seconds reading the AI summary of any Google search reveals how unsuited AI (currently) is when it comes to critical, intelligent writing of any form... AI might well be ...

Re: How to enhance a weak audio signal in a DAW

Pretty much all the noise will be room acoustic, rather than preamp hiss — unless you recorded at -50dBFS or lower.

Re: Tascam FR-AV2 - testing the dual-ADC 32-bit float recorder

Good stuff. Regarding the +4dBu maximum mic input level*, I dont believe it presents a headroom problem in reality. The sensitivity of most popular capacitor mics ranges from around 10mV/Pa (eg. Neumann km84) to about 25mV/Pa (eg. Sennheiser MKH40)... or a little higher (eg. Blue Baby ...

It's frustrating as a newbie to this as a fun hobby that you buy a 'portable' 'handheld' recorder and find that you can't hand-hold it really... You can! You just can't move around while hand-holding it! and to get a good recording you have to carry far more than the 'recorder' that you purchased ...

I think the missing aspect in your post is authentic living value. I disagree. I think we naturally like the believe that there is something 'special' and 'indefinable' about the exclusivity of human creativity... but I don't think that's really the case. It's just sufficiently complex that it has ...

I've never felt the need for fans in racks. Convectional cooling, with spaces above and below anything that gets warm has always proved sufficient for me. And putting any hot things at the top, not the bottom!

I've become a big fan of the Tascam FR-AV2 for ultra-compact hassle-free location recording. Very similar to the Zoom F1/F3. Re: dbx 223xs set up

When we cabled the speakers as 2.2 we ended up with the Left sub fully anti clockwise, infinity, so it was basically acting as x-over doing its thing to the top with no bass output from that sub. So it was already running as a 2.1 system, but without delivering bass from the left channel (unlikely ...
