Re: Is it possible to isolate rooms in a normal house?
Air ducts most certainly — I'd forgotten about the US penchant for ducted air heating systems. But yes, mechanically linked walls, floors and ceilings will certainly pass a lot of sound too. This is why professiobal grade sound isolation between rooms really needs to be designed into a building b ...

Re: Buying back synths I've owned
I couldn't afford to buy back most of my previous keyboards (CS80 and Jupiter 8 are the major headliners), but they were enjoyed enormously while I had them and they went for entirely legitimate reasons with no regrets. Arturia plugins played from a Hydrasynth Deluxe brings them back whenever the ...

Re: Output on Input Channels
Read the manual for the mixer again. I think your monitoring outputs from the computer DAW need to be routed through the USB 1/2 outputs which only feed the mixer's control room outs and headphones. The USB3/4 outputs from the computer appear on a stereo channel which gets mixed with everything else ...

Re: And another mic test, just for fun
A spokesman for the Campaign for Real Medium Wave Radio and the Bring Back Cassette Recorders lobby today said: Listening to music with a HPF at 10k is instructive. There is measurably as well as audibly very little information there. I am not saying it is an unimportant band, but it is over-rated ...

Re: HOT HOT HOT (rack gear)
I've never found forced air cooling necessary in a studio rack. An open back and vent panels between hot gear has always been sufficient in my experience.

Re: HOT HOT HOT (rack gear)
Thanks Hugh. I'll put the patch bay at the very top, then the TL then a gap then the 1960. Personally, I'd put a vent panel between the patchbay and TL, and another between the TL and 1960. Two reasons: 1. You really do need to allow hot air to escape easily from anything that gets warm and 2. From ...

Re: File import?
Not true. If you're playing streamed audio, Audiacty on its own cannot "open" it or even record it. Half true! Audacity can not record the stream directly, but it can record the decoded stream as it is routed through to the computer's output device. Recording desktop audio | Audacity Support https ...

Vent panels between and above hot units are essential.

Re: Condenser mic drops out when other channels activated
I agree, it sounds like the mixer is struggling to provide enough phantom voltage (or current). And some mics require stupidly high currents! The obvious work around solutio would be to buy a separate standaline phantom power supply for the mysterious troublesome mic. But if you want to use the desk ...

Re: Audio over Cat5/6/etc. (Part, the second)
Any cheaper alternatives like DIY? I dont understand the question, or its relevance to this 5 year old thread? Four-channel Cat5 breakout boxes and tails are as cheep as chips (or fries, if you prefer!), and very easy to DIY if you can weird a soldering iron competently. Im told DIY might cause ...

Re: Feeding line out of on stage mixer into another mixer feeding the Pa - interfacing the 2
I was wondering at the start if there were any sonic considerations for either method (into Mic or Line) possibly in terms of matching but I strongly suspect now that it not the case. No. All modern analogue audio interfaces are voltage-matched and impedance really doesn't come into it. A line ...

Re: Drop in replacement for Burr Brown OPA4134PA
I found the schematic: Acorn audio.jpg It's a bit of a weird mod! I think I would have simply added a new output socket or output cable connected to the audio output header plug since the unfiltered outputs are already there on pins 1 and 7. That would have been massively less invasive and less ...

Re: Feeding line out of on stage mixer into another mixer feeding the Pa - interfacing the 2
Hi, just wondered if anybody could advise.... You've already covered all the bases! The mixer output is balanced line-level. The FOH mixer may be able to cope with that, or it may required balanced mic level. Your mixer can provide mix level, as you stated. But there are two main risks when ...

Re: Drop in replacement for Burr Brown OPA4134PA
Check this video at minute 12:00, where YouTuber ctrl-alt-Reese did the mod on his A305 (he also removed some filters from the mainboard) Removing the low-pass filters clearly makes massively more difference than swapping the op-amp! I've not seen the schematic, so I dont know how the quad op-amps ...

Re: Two violins live, outdoor
Hi everybody, I'm going to play at an outdoor event in a small courtyard. We are two violins. From previous experience, the sound is quite feeble without amplification. Yes, it would be. If the courtyard is edged by buildings, standing in a corner would help a lot, using the buildings' walls to ...

FYI, the licence-exempt VHF band in the UK is 173.7 to 175.1MHz.
Other VHF frequencies are available in the UK licensed Shared Spectrum, but 207.5MHz isn't one of them.
Other countries have different frequency allocations...

Re: I need your suggestions for a perplexing problem...please.
When this happens, I checked all the meters (24 I/O, Cuemix, Central Station, Nuendo) for all of these components and they are all showing lower volume. If they all show low volume during the 'fault', anything after the first metered item in the chain must be blameless... If Nuendo is showing low ...

Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
There's been significant investment in its development and core components, so I'd be surprised if it is lost forever. Much more likely to be shelved until it becomes commercially viable once more in its key markets.

Re: Fault on a Soundcraft Spirit Folio Mixing Desk
Can't help but think everyone is focusing on the wrong area, and making pointless, unhelpful suppositions due to lack of information. It can't be a psu problem since only the main outputs are affected. A proper psu fault would affect everything. And in any case, measuring the raw AC from an unloaded ...
