Re: Connecting multiple devices to Behringer UMC404HD

I don't think it's a stretch at all. It's just "the modern way" — all the functionality of a hardware mixer plus much more besides, but done via dsp in the interface and controlled on-screen or via remote physical surfaces as required. I'm not 'anti-mixer' at all. They can be the best opti...

Re: Sibilance in Mixing and Mastering for Vinyl

Yes, I was going to suggest SimulLathe to identify any potential cutting issues before an unattended cut.

All images are working fine for me, both on smartphone and desktop, so it's not a website problem. Check your browser settings or try a different browser.

Re: Sibilance in Mixing and Mastering for Vinyl

I'm going to disagree with Hugh slightly here... There is no disagreement, James, but I can see my brevity may have left room for confusion. I'm assuming the OP is not cutting his own disc, but is just sending or taking a mix master to someone who will. In which case, he just needs to send or take ...

Re: Track names disappear

I would suggest contacting Sound Devices for clarity on this. Their support is pretty good. There are also quite a few YT videos on using 8-series recorders. I've not used the 8-series recorders, but I'm not sure the file naming system supports individual track names; I have a feeling that's done in...

Re: Connecting multiple devices to Behringer UMC404HD

Arpangel uses a mixer because he needs real-time hands-on control of multiple effects sends/returns. His is a specific and slightly unusual application. It's trivially simple (and reasonably affordable) to arrange for very high numbers of inputs directly into an interface. A mixer is not required fo...

Re: Sibilance in Mixing and Mastering for Vinyl

No.

A good sounding mix is a good sounding mix.

A mix with uncontrolled sibilance is not a good sounding mix.

The specialist process of cutting a disc for vinyl production incorporates specific tools for controlling HF energy should the cutter be at risk from a poor mix.

Re: Blue Baby Bottle microphone issue

I had the impression the audio went via an XLR to USB cable with a biilt-in ADC — the lumpy lead in the photo.

Re: Blue Baby Bottle microphone issue

I also have a cable going from the power supply's DC 5V port to another USB port on my laptop to get power to the power supply. I would suspect this is the issue. In all the NW-100 images I've seen, the power supply is marked as an 18VAC, and I gather a mains-powered wall-wart is provided for the p...

Re: HUM Audio Devices N-Trophy console

It's a bit 'busy' for me too, but it has all the bells and whistles on it. Expensive, of course, where a 16 channel desk costs over £10k more than the equivalently sized Neve BCM10, and it's amongst some very strong competition... But the HUM is built as a no expense-spared kind of deal with huge ve...

Re: Moog Subsequent 37 noise when keys played/envelopes are opened but no Oscillators on/up

If it didn't hiss a bit with the headphones on max it would be broken. All audio electronics generate noise — white noise. This is normal... but I'll try and get some figures from mine tomorrow for comparative purposes.

Re: Moog Subsequent 37 noise when keys played/envelopes are opened but no Oscillators on/up

I have a Subsequent 37cv. I've not noticed the noises you describe, but then I dont play it with the oscillators turned off! I would expect some very low level digital control noise, though — it's pretty much inevitable. ADSRs will often generate clicks and thumps, especially at very fast settings. ...

Re: Connecting second display

Decent analogue-digital video conversion within the monitor?

Try the direct digital hook up and see if you can spot any difference... I could when I changed my computer a few years back.

Re: Connecting second display

Modern monitor screens are all driven digitally. VGA is a very old analogue interface, and converting from the digital output of your computer to analogue, and then back to digital in the monitor is likely to degrade the picture quality. It would be much better to buy an adapter cable that takes a s...

Re: Blue Baby Bottle microphone issue

I was gifted a Blue Baby Bottle condenser mic. I hooked it up to my laptop PC (Windows 10) using a 48V NEEWER NW-100 power supply. This device is just a power supply. It doesn't interface with the laptop... To figure out why you're apparently no longer getting signal we need to know what connected ...
