Re: Download format

Is there really any point in paying more for 'better than' 44.1kHz and 24bits? No, not at all. If the mastering and file production has been done correctly, the 44.1/24 should sound the same as a 96k*. There may be differences in the way the playback system handles the files, however. The is no gua...

Re: Mm electronics mixer - rare gem or throwaway?

when I switched to an 8-input audio interface and abandoned the mixer all my keyboards suddenly sounded more expensive - the mixer was the limiting factor in my audio chain ;) But did it make your music sound more expensive? :) It did actually, just as you can often hear increases in clarity in you...

Re: Back to Berlin School -- again!

That second bar of 6/8 took me by surprise - it’s not in your proof of concept. Is it deliberately there to stop us getting complacent? Good catch, and yes, it's there to add some interest to the piece. I liked that twist a lot - it felt like walking downstairs and missing a step, resulting in a st...

Re: Mm electronics mixer - rare gem or throwaway?

My first mixer was an MM (about 40 years ago), so far too long ago to accurately recall what I sounded like. What I can remember is that I was very happy to move on to something better at the earliest opportunity. I had exactly the same experience. Our band bought am MM 16:2 version, and then I bou...

Re: Back to Berlin School -- again!

I had to do a magazine interview recently, that was an interesting experience. I was asked questions about what I think our music "is" and one was "if your band had a mission statement, what would it be?" I’m not saying here what I said, but that was an unexpected question, and ...

Re: Hydrasynth Deluxe

After seeing just how much has been added in the version 2 firmware (including a doubling of the number of patch banks  ), I've finally just updated everything (Manager/Updater/Firmware/Banks), and am excessively pleased with the results (silly me! ;) )

I'm still very happy with my 49-key version, but I really must update it to the latest firmware :headbang:

Re: PARKSIDE - a drone/ambient composition

...But ultimately, it's just as you described it: a very textured wall of sound that sometimes has an interesting thing occur, but otherwise just puts you in a trance. :D I tend to agree with Eddy here - I loved all the atmospheric sounds and their evolving nature, but feel that it would work far b...

Thanks for listening, Martin! I’m curious as to what you will think of the final composition. I think it lost a bit of that industrial edge, though there’s still plenty of grit to go round!

Listening now - will report back in your release thread

Re: Sound on Sound magazine no longer catering for old subscribers

After thousands of issues of Sound On Sound one arrives featuring female engineers, artists and writers. For some inexplicable reason this immediately results in a feedback topic in which some men moan about it. What a shame. +1 The fact that this still seems to make men uncomfortable highlights th...
