Re: Could I get a Sade-type sound with a PC + Ableton? Or would Mac + Logic Pro be way better?
Unless you’ve other reasons to buy a Mac, there’s no point in learning a new platform just to use Logic when other powerful DAWs will run on your PC.

Re: Using a a single Mic preamp for stereo mix?
Short answer - no! As you’ve noticed yourself, a single channel unit won’t do stereo. It might be useful if you would tell us what you’re trying to achieve. “Stereo Mix” - where would that be coming from? A mixer? It’s likely to be at line level so won’t play nicely with a mic preamp, even if you had ...

Re: Microphone stand suggestions?
a wing-bolt of some kind should be readily available This is exactly what I did for a friend recently with this problem. In the pictures, the threads on the “bolt” are worn, this is probably the only bit that needs replaced. I wouldn’t rush changing to a larger sized thread as there’s a chance the n ...

Even if it is true, that's more than 2 years ago.

I've a Caldigit hub (not a docking hub) here working fine on a M2 Mac mini.

Re: 65 watt amp powered by a power strip?
I have a Biyang Metal End King pedal (clone of an Akai Deluxe Distortion), and I've heard of some people using these types of pedals straight from the guitar, into the pedal and then straight into the effects return. Personal taste, but my preference would be guitar > distortion pedal > guitar ...

Re: Crackling Sound In Guitar Amp
Matthew Seed wrote: ↑Sat May 31, 2025 4:17 pm Things I have tried.
1. tried another guitar and it still does it.
2. took all the cables out and used no pedals...just one guitar, one cable straight into the amp and it still does it.
3. Same as point 2 but with new guitar and speaker cable.
New guitar and guitar cable?

Re: Could we have a whip round for SOS
We review high end products occasionally because (a) a lot of readers are genuinely interested in them, (b) they give a useful frame of reference for more budget-friendly stuff, and (c) the technology always trickles down, so they give clues as to what lies in the future. … and in the future what i ...

Re: Is my Strat doomed or does yours also...?
It. went back to the store and they replaced the saddle and screws. I don't like to ask, but do you trust the store that they really did? Both saddle & screws? The store is Guitar Guitar (Camden branch), and frankly they have been very supportive so far, and yes I tend to trust them.

Re: Weird electrical problem
Silly question maybe, but are you sure it’s the heater?
Have you spent a long time in the studio without the heater plugged in? (Not likely in the winter!)
If not, then it’s possible the ring might trip without the heater, and the problem could be somewhere else?
