Re: Ear Defenders
ACS Pro 17s for me, without question. I baulked at the price some 12 years ago, until I got them. Then, when I sadly lost them 6-7 years later, I was straight out to get another pair, no questions asked. It's *all* about the custom fit. Even my wife now has them for occasional gigs and musicals ...

Re: Microphone stand suggestions?
The screws for the tripod base have arrived today and they have fixed the issue. My Pulse stands have had a fare amount of use for almost 10 years and the only issue I've had is a simple £1 fix. Indeed, it's a piece of cake with the right parts. And, of course, if you're replacing both threaded ...

Re: Oasis - what’s the story?
I went to the big Knebworth show in 1996. Honestly, I found their performance lacklustre. Wasn't going to bother again, but persuaded along by my daughter. Sound will likely be typical stadium meh. But, from the first night reports, the athmosphere will be electric with 50,000 drunk people euphoric ...

Re: Microphone stand suggestions?
It's K&M all the way for me. I've had too many issues with cheap stands in the past. Cheap stands - quite hideous - horrible to use and fall to bits. That said, the Pulse ones were reasonable for the money - especially the short ones. But they'll eventually fail exactly as you've found, with thread ...

Re: Trolley/cart for PA?
Lightweight / cheap / folding / fits in the boot are pretty much incompatible with uneven ground / gravel.
Most, if not all, of the trolleys listed earlier on in the post are likely to be harder work than just carrying the gear - which is what you'll probably end up doing anyway.

Re: Church PA Operation
For me, church PA is well summarised as being the not very capable operating mediocre equipment to amplify generally poor sources. Harsh, but generally accurate. Physics will always win. Move from lavs to headset mics is one of the few equipment investments worth making - not that it need cost more ...

Re: Replacing an analogue snake and analogue mixer
A "pack away" church like this is crying out for a rack with all the kit (mixer, radio RX, amp). This keeps day to day cable management to a minimum. A case like this makes a surface-less mixer worth the additional learning curve of getting people to "mix on glass". I helped a local church do this ...

Re: Puzzling Issue but not a problem
Back in my day, I learnt by experimentation. I would happily try an acoustic guitar through a passive DI, discovering that some behaved much better than others.
Sadly, learning through experimentation appears to be a lost art...

Re: USB Connecter Liability On Stage!
People should I think make greater use of the principle of "sacrificial connectors" Absolutely. Had a friends "lump on a cable" PSU for a Shure radio pack passed on to me, bare conductors showing where the 12v cable exits the strain relief and has clearly been over-flexed. Of course, these things ...

Re: Rcf 932a - worthy upgrade?
I have heard the 910s and thought they sounded very sweet, and I loved their compact size (plus low weight and low price) but they were working with a sub when I heard them and I was concerned that they might not be loud and versatile enough on their own. There's really not a massive difference ...

Re: Rcf 932a - worthy upgrade?
Everything I've heard about them is good... except a few complaints about hiss from the power amp which is audible in quiet situations — like conferences, publuc meetings, after-dinner events, etc. Have any current users found this to be an issue? While not 900 series, I've got ART 710 and 722. All ...

An 'outside broadcast vehicle'? Not by my definition!
Sounds about right to me.

Re: Help find source of distortion
With one of my TS310s I got some distortion at one point, so I opened it up (it was 2 years old at this point) and the compression driver was a tiny bit loose from the horn. Literally just screwed it back on and the speaker worked perfectly from then and I've never had another problem. To be ...

Re: Help find source of distortion
You may be hearing physical rattling. Not unheard of in some cabs - especially cheap ones like you have. Can be hard to identify and track down, and not always easily fixable. Don't worry about your level when feeding a PA, any competent engineer should be able to handle pretty much any realistic ...

Re: Do you jump in?
The sound has been excellent at all of their previous gigs I've been to, including some other places that don't have great natural sound. They were having some technical gremlins as well so I don't know if there was some knock on effects but I can't think what. And there's the rub - you don't know ...

Re: Lithium AA’s in radio mics - any thoughts?
Newer kit with its own rechargeables can be great. We have Sennheiser EW-DX, with the custom Li-Ion packs (can use 2xAA in a pinch) where the Tx drop into chargers for storage along with charging. Works an absolute treat.

Re: Do you jump in?
Was tempted* to last night at Public Service Broadcasting. Low mids were swamping everything, so the guitar went too loud to compensate and then the vocals and samples were being lost. And we were right next to the sound desk, my friend in the seating area said it was terrible up there. :( Doesn't ...

Re: Do you jump in?

Re: Gain Question on Yamaha TF Series | HELP
Picture failure aside, I do believe the HA Control is on for the TF5, but the console is prone to turning on and off analog gain and phantom power (seemingly randomly) for channels 1-8 regardless of HA being on. I will try turning off HA Control and will reply back once I am able. Thank you ...

I'm no TF user, and neither image worked, BTW. Re: Main lead quality to speakers
So do I, I’m going to risk ridicule (again) by saying it's the only cable that my ears heard a definite "improvement" in sound quality from, I made up a set of leads for my CD player using Klotz cable, I'm not normally into all this malarky, but there was a nice improvement, quite an obvious one. I' ...
