Re: Beefy PA that's not too heavy..does it exist?

Many years since I head any KV2, but about 15 years ago I came across it sometimes, either in porta-rigs, substantial festival-type setups and one install... always sounded very good and smooth with no obvious peaks or troughs... Of course, I couldn't see what the graphics or other EQ were up to! :)

Re: Python?

Hmmm... 'Python in easy steps' the book's called... not so easy when it assumes you know all about Dos, and can remember the commands. The book gives instructions 'that you must copy exactly'... that python promptly spits-out as syntax error. It's me; the book has many very positive reviews... Ho ...

Re: New monitors time: front or rear port?

'tis the human condition... gimme more for less... Spin-forward... our local Jessops closed ...

Re: A Few Thoughts on Field Recorders

From Hugh's review of the F6: Given the unit’s design and features, it would be reasonable to assume the F6 is designed primarily with video cameras and DSLR users in mind, its compact proportions making it ideal for fixing between a tripod and camera baseplate, or onto the base of a DSLR (and it c ...

Re: Mic suggestions required for Edinburgh Fringe stand up show

Bearing in mind he's animated and is good with a handheld, the obvious solution is a handheld radio mic... BUT... the area is likely to be awash with RF, so interference in the licence-free bands could be a real issue... SO probably best to get a cabled mic... need to get one that is good with ...

Re: A Few Thoughts on Field Recorders

I don't know what your priorities are so I'm making some 'wide' suggestions... Hugh liked the H8 in his review (a lot!): https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/zoom-h8 but I've always thought them somewhat cumbersome for field work... Also don't know how many mic inputs you need... so... my shortlist ...

I'm looking to replace my dead ZOOM H6 with a new recorder. Right now it is a choice between a ZOOM H8 and Tascam DR-70D. I would be using it for field and video work. I would appreciate any suggestions on these recorders or any other recorder you think might be a better choice. Thank you for any ...

Re: Beefy PA that's not too heavy..does it exist?

Bose L series are great but don't go loud, I believe Fohn (IIRC) do some 'mini line array' tops (didn't Bob Bickerton have some?) that give lots of volume. But, how many SRM12s and 18" subs do you use? A Yamaha DZR/DXS rig would get you significantly more SPL with a couple of DZR10's and one or two ...

It's an art form. I used to have to do this for amateur theatre. Got stumped once on "the beating of gigantic wings". Turns out you use an umbrella and open and close it repeatedly! Ha!
