Re: Mic impedence tricks and tips

Simple question: Why do you want to alter the impedance? Is it just because there's a control on the piece of kit, so you thought you'd give it a twiddle to see what happens? :) If it ain't broke... Really? Surely there's nothing wrong with being curious about "what does that knob do". As...

Re: Revox a77 - alignment problems?

I'm reminded of something I saw affixed to a VDU (it was a long time ago!) which was depressing for me as a (then) IT trainer: "When in doubt press buttons indiscriminately" The A77 was/is a very good piece of kit. Your well-meaning, but uninformed, fiddling about runs the real risk of tur...

Re: New forum member! Looking for help with my vocal chain!

Welcome!  BWC is spot-on on both counts. You probably don't need the processing kit - especially any form of compression - for live-radio work. The radio studio will be doing various processing of the signal - both coming from you and leaving them either to the transmitter or streami...

Re: Glasto Pyramid Stage sound.

Maybe this simplified diagram will help explain how a typical live broadcast event is configured: https://i.imgur.com/CI4X3AF.jpg Of course, in reality, for an event like Glasto there will be many more than 12 lines! I've worked on both FOH and Broadcast with this kind of setup in the past. I've sho...

Re: Glasto Pyramid Stage sound.

Simone is a broadcast mixer as can be seen from his website https://www.simonelombardi.co.uk/journey so his comments are highly relevant. Yes, that's true. But neither the post referencing his comments nor the one from tea-for-two specifically mentions broadcast ... In his case, if you don't know w...

Re: Combination mixer and audio interface ?

But unless the OP states otherwise it could easily be a software one. As I understand it the OP is playing guitar and singing with others over the internet, so any level setting needs to be done beforehand as you can’t play and use faders. Fair point! I'd assumed too much because of the Internet as...

Re: about a preamp

Just to give some context to the post/thread... James is the chap who's been using Garage Band and has asked us lots of questions about it and 'mastering'.

From his questions, I think he's just at the start of his recording adventures! :)

Re: Combination mixer and audio interface ?

As the OP is streaming I understand the need for a mixer somewhere in the config.

OP: please give some indication of budget and we can advise...

Have you looked at the Zoom LiveTrak range, The Tascam Podtraks and the Rode Rodecaster Pro's?

Re: Glasto Pyramid Stage sound.

I'm back... ... but coming from a different tack... We need to be very clear what's under discussion here and not unintentionally blur edges and conflate things. The only connection (see what I did there?) between the live-sound mix heard in the arena and the broadcast mix is that they use the...

Re: Video streaming or multi-camera work... new product!

... looks like the mock-up is based on the Rodecaster Pro ... Yup! That's been mentioned by at least one commentator... ... but then, as it incorporates similar sound facilities to the RP I guess that's not too surprising... I'm intrigued by the flying faders in the vid... I think that must be crea...

Re: Battery powered generator for keys and Midas XR12 mixer?

Just another thought... are you/we sure that the battery-powered speakers have sufficient 'juice' storage to see them safely through the duration of the planned set?

Re: Battery powered generator for keys and Midas XR12 mixer?

Unless you know what current is drawn cumulatively by all the gear you wish to connect, then whether/not the items you reference will be suitable is impossible to say. The last thing you want is to exhaust your power source halfway through the event... I suggest you buy one of the meters previously ...

Re: Battery powered generator for keys and Midas XR12 mixer?

I used to do this sort of thing sometimes in days of yore... Back then, the 'all-in-1' units weren't available, so I used a 12-volt Leisure Battery and a 12v-240v inverter. The size of the inverter you want depends on the total current draw of all of the equipment you want to run simultaneously. You...

Re: Best Dither, Sample-Rate and Bit-Depth for Masters?

The question was framed in the context of MP3s, before moving on to wider contexts. I've read elsewhere that if creating MP3s from WAVs then you shouldn't apply dither... and that seems to be borne-out by iZotope's export function in RX. If exporting to MP3, you don't get the option to apply dither....

Yup!

Looks like it'll be about £/$1300... which is good value for what you get, I think...

Re: Next Video Cam

The big advantage of 4K isn’t the ability to output 4K content, particularly if your target platform is YouTube, but the ability to crop in or do digital zooms in post without compromising quality on a 1080 output. But broadly agree with Mike about having a look at 2nd hand. Still think mirrorless ...
