Re: Extremely Post Production: Cassette to CD

Hi all, So, about 40 years ago, I, along with a pianist, home recorded a few jazz standards onto cassette. I wonder if anyone has any advice regarding copying to cd, which would achieve best results. Many thanks. Kj Hi I took the liberty of editing this topic's subject and changed to Extremely Post...

Re: AI Singing Technology

I was hoping "AI" was smart enough to be able to be taught to recognize the backing vocals and differentiate those from the lead singer and only remove the lead singer only. Maybe I have to wait until "AI" get more educated? I keep hearing how AI can do anything, so I was hoping...

Re: Magazine availability is very poor

My position is almost exactly the opposite. I don't really need access to the magazine, whether printed or digital. I'm quite happy to wait 6 months to read anything I want to read (a very enlightened policy, I have always thought) but I very much value the forum and so to support that I buy a digi...

AI Singing Technology

Just watched the recent Dr Mix video and if you are not a good singer but have ideas, this app he tests/promotes could prove useful to you?

Sadly I have engaged far less with my fellow Forum members than I would like over the past few years -- work life has been extremely busy, and about to get busier.

So I am happy to indulge.

Re: New rankings

We can't apply colours to rank titles - software does not allow.

I have adjusted the Rank Titles and thresholds, and they are now set as follows:

Re: Bitwig Studio 5.1 -- April 2024

I can understand your comment, but I can guess editorial members focus on new content (or that got cut for the print version to fit layout page space) - but usually they do include a reference back to last-reviewed version. With web articles, we do try to add Related Article links to previous publis...

I think 5,000 would be good, midwayish between 500 and 10,000.

As to what to call it, I’m not sure. Longtime poster?

Longtime Poster duly created and set to 5K threshold.

Re: New rankings

Ian, is that Discourse? I use Discourse forums frequently and the software used by SOS now, is in my opinion, much better. Discourse has a lot of bells and whistles but the basic experience, for me at least, is quite poor. Nope, it's not Discourse - looked at that but agree with you, it is lacking.

Re: New rankings

It is indeed about the quality of post information. I didn't invent the phpBB software but I think I'd be lynched if I removed all rank titles! I do have plans in 2025 to migrate to a superb forum software that gives us bells and whistles like user voting (think "likes") for members who h...

Re: New rankings

So there's nothing between Frequent Poster and Jedi Poster ? That shows just how silly this sort of thing is (the ridiculous naming I mean). Presumably some idea one of the original coders came up with they thought would be "cool". 8-) A better system would incorporate data derived from t...

Re: Magazine availability is very poor

Good job the forum isn't reliant on funding from subs and sales..... oh, wait... Yes, some folk forget that. One day in the future, there is likely not to be any print magazine -- if we believe the demise of print myth -- so it might be worth getting used to using the Digital services sooner rather...

Back to Print sub

BTW, we don't shout about it, but if you do NOT wish to have the Digital part, just add the P+D sub to your cart, and enter one of these codes in the Promo Box and at final checkout your price will reduce and remove the digital access rights, and you will be mailed your print magazine alone. BACKTOP...

Re: Magazine availability is very poor

I can read a digital version if I’m looking for something using search for a particular term but I can’t read a digital article for pleasure. I also resent the dumbing down of articles when (apart from the older contributor’s articles) there’s rarely anything that I can’t find (often with more tech...

Re: Magazine availability is very poor

Hi DarthPaul, Sadly, I am crucially aware of the difficulties in sourcing a print copy of SOS magazine in newsagents nowadays, which is why we encourage and promote print+digital (P+D) subscriptions - they are great value compared to 12 x £6.99 UK cover price. See www.soundonsound.com/subscribe WHS ...

Of course you can - don't be confined by what you think a painting or drawing should be.

I have tried to train myself to detect if I'm rushing or dragging a beat, and it can be very hard to know for sure.

Just record yourself in your DAW of choice and apply grid quantise to show you how far "off" your hits are?
