Re: FAQs for all Atarians

Hi Alex, you're correct, I must get on with another update on Atari sources. Suffice to say that many listed in the 2012 survey are unfortunately now no longer with us. However, it's all happening at the Atari ST Musicians page on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/atarist/" target="...

Re: What are you using your Atari for?

And I'm back again! After nearly six years in store, the entire studio is back in a new premises and it's gradually being re-commissioned. Guess what? The Ataris fired up first time with no problems, although one of my Syquest drives has thrown a wobbly and will need to be replaced - no matter, I ha...

Re: Synth repair in U.K

Hi folks, I've recently started using Keith McHard of Stourbridge, who has many years experience with synths, and a large collection of gear that he's familiar with. He's fixed issues that have stumped other repairers of my acquaintance, and most recently revived a Korg 01W that was so mangled that ...

Re: Important info regarding Yahoo Groups.

Many thanks Hugh.

Some folks on the Yahoo groups are speculating that this may be the first step in closing down Yahoo altogether?

Re: Atari 1040ST - Unitor Smpte problem

In that case, do you have a spare Atari that you can try out? Barrie at Keychange (www.keychange.co.uk) reckons that Ataris need servicing every so often so at a guess (and it is a guess on my part) you may have a dry joint or similar somewhere that may be upsetting your ST? Hope this helps, Best wi...

Re: Atari 1040ST - Unitor Smpte problem

Two possibilities: Have you cleaned the SMPTE jack sockets on the Unitor? You'd be amazed at how much grot gets in there even though it's supposed to be a sealed unit. How it gets there is anyone's guess. Secondly, check out the contacts in the cartridge port. Even though they may be sparkling clean...

Re: What are you using your Atari for?

Hi folks, I've been rather quiet over the last three years, as my studio and Ataris have all been boxed up and have been sitting in the garage. A VERY nasty divorce and financial settlement (still to be resolved) has meant that I haven't had any premises to get it all set up again. :( However, when ...

Re: Representing Music Visually

You could have a look at this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoSvtJGI7lk which is a production by Richard Burn, currently doing a PhD at Brum City Uni in visual representation of music. I believe that there may be a more in depth version on BCU's own website: http://www.bcu.ac.uk/news-events/news/...

Re: Can the fearsome midi timing of c-lab's creator/notator be now found in contemporary midi-capable software?

. There is no doubt there is value in hardware though - but only really in the older vintage stuff, or the modern cool stuff - that big chunk in the middle, the early digital period, the hardware is mostly worthless and modern software does almost everything substantially better in all regards... Re: Can the fearsome midi timing of c-lab's creator/notator be now found in contemporary midi-capable software?

Hi folks, fascinating stuff here, particularly for me as I'm still a die hard Atari fan. Currently my entire studio is boxed up in the garage, as I'm going through a messy divorce and when things are sorted out I'll still be using my hardware setup rather than going all current and softsynthy. Now w...

Atari in 2012. Hi folks, It’s been a while since I last looked through the Atari scene, and as I found that quite a few of the sites mentioned previously have gone to the great website in the sky, I thought it might be a suitable time to update this FAQ with the current state of the Atari scene in 2...

Re: Notator tips

Hi folks, it's been a while, I know, but things are still humming along in Notator land! :) What we've found over recent years is that there's a fledgling file in Notator that was designed to be developed for later Audio Recording. As we know, once Notator 'transformed' into Logic then the whole thi...
