Re: RIP www.microphone-data.com ?
:bouncy: Valid point, but spoken like a true dealer! I’m not a dealer, I’m a distributor. But what price do you put? Prices vary from country to country. And it would be an awful lot of work to keep everything up to date. And what country do you choose? Everything is more expensive in Australia due ...

Re: RIP www.microphone-data.com ?
I don’t like that they have the price of the microphones. This will be different in each country and currency. Much better to have price ranges say 5 different levels from cheap to expensive - this will give a good idea of price which the viewer can then look up at various stores in their own c ...

Re: Those rackmount multitrack recorders?
Those rackmount multitrack recorders that are made today like JoeCo BBR-1B 24, Tascam have one too. Are there any that have punch in/out facilities for tracking, or are they all meant for just live capture and that's it? Talk to Joe Bull at JoeCo - there are several models and I’m pretty sure one o ...

If you want an analogue limiter, look at the new HUM audio LAAL - everyone who has tried it says that it’s “magic” and is on the list to buy one. https://www.sound-link.co.uk/hum-audio/laal/ I do these in the UK, I don’t know who does them in the USA. I have been in pro audio for donkey’s years and t ...

Re: NEW Audio show - London - October 15th - "Pro-Audio Show"
Addendum - I think that this is the first show that Austrian Audio have exhibited at in the UK (please correct me if I am wrong) so it's an excellent chance to see their new microphones and headphones in the flesh.

Re: Headphones recommendations - Beyerdynamic...?
I use Sennheiser - both open and closed, but Beyer do have an excellent reputation.
I am also interested in trying the new Austrian Audio headphones as they seem very interesting (all ex-AKG Vienna) and I hope they will have them at the Pro-Audio Show in London in October.

Re: Soaring prices? WIN top gear/software with SOS Competitions
A few years ago I donated a Gefell M 930 set for a Sound On Sound competition and drove up to Edinburgh to present it to the winner in person. That's what's known as "going the extra mile". :-) Commendable action, John. It was good to meet the winner in person - but I combined it with a ...

Re: field recording mics
hi. I do a bit of location recording using a mixpre 3 and a couple of omni Sennheisers (ME62s). I am keen to try some cardioids in ORTF and am thinking about which mics to go for. I have the Rode TF5s, Neumann KM184s and the Sennheiser MKH 8040s in mind. The latter are clearly more expensive and ...

Re: Opera recording
A stereo pair would be perfect. Fly them high so they won't be visible to the audience. John Barnes used to archive every performance at Glyndebourne Opera and he hung a pair of omnis from the lighting gallery (I was with him one time and we hung extra omnis to do a microphone test at the same time ...

Re: Need mic help
A USB mic is based on computer technology - although it can be a useful bit of kit, computer technology changes very fast and it should be treated as a "throw-away" and needs to pay for itself pretty quickly. A proper microphone is a mature technology and will last (if treated properly) for decades ...

Re: A Mic below 50Hz? Why?
As for what awesome mic means to me, I didn’t express myself correctly. I mostly close-mic, recording 1 instrument at a time. The room does not add any desirable sound that I want to include in the mix. So I’ve ruled out an omni mic. An omni isn't just about capturing the room though (or not as des ...

Re: Sennheiser MKH20 Ring responses
I could have sworn I have seen a polar plot of the MKH 20 with ring, but I cannot be sure - I will have a look. In many ways I still prefer the MKH 20/30/40 series to the 8000 series - but I do have pairs of both MKH 40/8040 and MKH 20/8020 in both versions. Though I now do tend to use my Gefell ...

I'd suggest keeping it ad simple as possible to start with, and just mount the zoom on a tripod at chest height. Stand in or near of the curve of the grand piano, facing out with the piano behind, and with the lid open on the long stick. Put the zoom about 3 metres in front of you and record. You ...

Re: External microphone (recorder?) for photo camera Nikon D5600 for making records on acoustic piano
Forget mounting the microphones anywhere near rhe camera. I would use a pair of the Line Audio OM1 omni microphones via an interface that can provide 48V phantom power and then take an output to the camera. The OM1 have a quality far in excess of the low price you pay for them. Place the microphones ...
