Is it making a horrible noise?
If not, just keep using it until it dies.
If/when it does, it'll be much easier to diagnose the problem..

Re: Well I never. Learned a new trick about FM synthesis
Hmm, I'll have to try this on my DX7.
Can you post some links?
When you say "frequency envelope" you mean the standard envelope as it applies to the modulator operator, yes?

Re: Roland TR-606 hum when LEDs are on ...
OK so just to clarify on the PSU requirements for the TR-606: the original Boss/Roland ACA supply was indeed an unregulated model which is mentioned in the 606 Owner's Manual. There was a later wall wart, the PSA240. This is a regulated 9V 200ma supply. Having had my 606 for nearly 30 years, I can ...

Re: Note tails when "re-amping"
OK, well this is embarrassing. Some IDIOT left a noise gate on the Cubase output channel for the DI track. I don't know who it was, but when I find them, heads will roll :::facepalm::: OK, switching the noise gate off, it's sounding much more as expected now. And you were right Wonks, it needed a ...

Re: Note tails when "re-amping"
Regardless of why you're getting these 'note tails', using the DI as a gate side-chain to the distorted track might give you a cleaner result. Thanks Elf, but I'm not sure I want a "cleaner" result... The note tails I'm talking about are when you have a decaying note in a high gain, highly ...

Re: Note tails when "re-amping"
How are you setting the output level from the MOTU line out? Are you making sure it’s the same level as the original guitar signal? Aah... great question. Actually that probably gets to the heart of the matter.. I'm not really sure how to set this level, I'm basically doing it by ear. But there d ...

Re: Note tails when "re-amping"
That seems quite a complex arrangement to me. But that's just because I like simple things. For example, I wouldn't know (if it were me) whether I was making my mental comparison of the dry signal reamped against 1) or 2) above. I'd need to know that - again, that's just me. There is also - as you ...

Re: Note tails when "re-amping"
After reading about the Sans Amp module, I think I understand a bit more about the direct recording chain and the XLR output direct sound, but the two recording chains into the mixer leave me a bit baffled. Are you going for a wet/dry/wet mix? Still need to know how the reamping is achieved. Well ...

Note tails when "re-amping"
I'm engineering and playing on a track that requires a fairly heavy rock guitar sound (not something I do a lot of) and after weeks of lacklustre results I'm realising what many others have found: it's difficult to judge the amount processing/distortion required for the final mix when you have your ...

Re: Cubase - range editing weirdness
I've certainly used the Arranger track, although much later in the process. It's a fairly brutal decision-making process because it results in a new project with just those arrangement parts in it. Early on in the process I often have instrumental or vocal parts recorded, sort of lying around, where ...

Re: Strymon NightSky Testing Uncovered Something Unusual
I never edit my BigSky, I find the system and interface unbelievably cumbersome, it could have been done much more elegantly, with a more comprehensive screen, all those heavy pedal switches and each bank with only three presets, please. Re: Cubase - range editing weirdness
So it's my brain that's weird and not Cubase. Phew! So how would a power user go about this for example:- there's several audio tracks, say drums, bass, keys whatever that make up Verse 1, that you want to copy to make up the basis of Verse 2, however following Verse 1 there's a chorus, but after ...

Cubase - range editing weirdness
I'm on Cubase 8.5 on El Cap (yes, and small dinosaurs have been seen in the studio at times) I'm not sure if I've changed a preference or whether it always did this, but it's driving me bonkers... Using the Range tool to select a segment of an audio part, Option-dragging this to another area of the ...

Re: Strymon NightSky Testing Uncovered Something Unusual
You also can’t edit the pedal on the fly like the Eventide, you have to guess the settings and Send them to the pedal using the Nixie software. Er.. my BSky sits next to my mixer and gets edited in real time like crazy! I love it! Especially on the Magneto setting! And that one with the monks' ...

Re: Recording changes in Midi Quest
I don't know about Logic, but I do this in Cubase. Sorry, bit hazy on how to set it up... you have to make sure that the midi channel you're using to control/automate MQ can't be construed by MQ to come from the actual synth, otherwise MQ will ignore it (avoiding a midi loop of some kind). Have you ...

Re: Strymon NightSky Testing Uncovered Something Unusual
With the High and Low cut wide open, I measured the frequency response with the 100% dry and then 100% wet signal - there is no reverb above 7-8khz. Ah ha! That's why they sound so good! Really, you don't want much happening above that anyway (except for ER as Wonks says), the money is in the mid ...

Re: You know that studio doorstop you keep tripping over?
A modern properly setup computer can do much lower latency, without jitter, and with higher polyphony too, than any hardware sampler. C’mon Tomás, you’re being far too sensible. Re: You know that studio doorstop you keep tripping over?
I used a SCSI to memory card interface with one of my old samplers before I moved them on. It needed no Pi, or anything other than plugging in. This one sounds a bit of a faff, TBH. It also looks a lot of bulk to be hanging from a SCSI port. True, but nothing stopping you from hanging it off an ...
