Re: How to ascertain dirty ground MBA / Ableton Move + neat solution
Ah well thank you, you've introduced me to a new concept - high and low resistance earths. I thought the wall socket just chucked it into the garden n that was that :headbang: Tbh I didn't know the plastic part of the connector was an earth either. There could be a couple of ways of skinning this ...

How to ascertain dirty ground MBA / Ableton Move + neat solution
I have a natty 15" M3 MacBook Air and recently picked up an Ableton Move which is also pretty nifty. Been having fun getting into the latter mainly as a controller for Live. However on attempting to sample from the MBA's headphone out to the 3.5mm audio in on the Move it became apparent just how ...

Re: Multi USB-C adapter for Mac? Is it even possible?
Did you end up getting a particular one?
I've just been reading some positive reports of Startech USB hubs for audio related uses. Seems like they're proper IT Professional jobbies.

Re: Sample rate of 384kHz at a 32‑bit resolution?
Scale model acoustics also may use v high sample rates. Making a scale model of a concert hall out of accurate materials is probably way easier and less time consuming than using some of the acoustics software I did during my masters  Thanks to doggedly making 3D models of acoustic spaces ...

Re: Info on a Common 80’s Sound
A pretty common synthesizer sound that’s pretty much a filtered arp..? Recreating it seems pretty trivial, I’m more curious about if this is a common preset/setting on some of these 80’s era synths? A couple examples, both start fairly early on in the track - https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nSEtY ...

Re: Steinberg dropping e-licenser support early 2025
I just thought of something, if they're shutting down the e-licenser service then I suppose the dongle is useless as far as installing Cubase etc on computers in the future. If it doesn't already exist on a system then I guess we won't be able to install it. I wonder how it'll work on old systems ...

Re: Multi USB-C adapter for Mac? Is it even possible?
Just seen Anker have released their 'Prime Series' which feature some handy looking hubs/chargers. https://www.anker.com/uk/products/a2683-anker-prime-charger-200w-6-ports-gan This one looks about right for me at least. Handy with a couple of USB-A and then really 3 USB-C I suppose rather than 4 as ...

Re: Recommendations please - Folding headphones and powered speakers for mobile use
Compact monitors - Mains powered not battery but I only have positive things to say about Eve SC203. I find myself using them more than my Neumann KH-80 because they sound better in awkward acoustic placings. Well featured too - USB audio interfacing, s/pdif in, subwoofer out, effective desk eq ...

Re: Steinberg dropping e-licenser support early 2025
What do people think about buying a final USB dongle for longevity's sake? Can we even do dongle transfers if we've moved our Cubase licenses over to the Steinberg Licensing system? That is an interesting point. If your dongle is really 17 years old, I would certainly consider buying a new one if ...

Re: Steinberg dropping e-licenser support early 2025
What do people think about buying a final USB dongle for longevity's sake? If it ain't broke don't fix it? My one has been going since 2008, not continuously been left on but some good stretches here and there. I've got the old, larger one. Sustained a little crack in the plastic a few years back ...

Re: My latest lovely journey with external PSUs
There's more to power connector specs than just the diameter. There's inside diameter, outside diameter and barrel length. If you're intending to solder a new connector on, there's also the maximum cable diameter the connector will take. This is one thing that often bothers me when I use the couple ...

Re: PolyBrute 12
Not into the synth aspect, but that 'full touch' keybed is impressive. Just to be clear, you means looks impressive? No one here has played it yet, correct? I played it at Superbooth. In the short run through from a rep and subsequent noodle I had it holds a lot of promise for me. It's kind of what ...

Re: Apple Silicon Performance Cores vs Efficiency Cores
I recently was mooting M2 vs M3 for the extra performance cores and ended up going for M3 on a Macbook Air. For my track count its eaten up everything I've thrown at it thus far and the battery use is great. So I think the utility of having efficiency cores shouldn't be underestimated if you intend ...

Re: Steinberg 32-bit interfaces: why gain knobs?
I'm super happy with the UR-22C I bought used for £66, 32-bit dynamic range or not. Personally I prefer using it in my setup over the original RME Babyface I also have. Haven't done any subjective audio quality comparisons yet neither have I tested for actual latency vs reported figures but so far I' ...

Gotta stick our necks out and call them imo. It's just annoying and a couple of times I've replied in earnest. I suppose we're gonna have to learn to live with it at some point but until then I hope it saves people the wasted time.
