Re: Which organs were used in these vintage recordings?...
Some of the older organs used 12 separate LC oscillators for the top octave, then simple dividers and filters for the lower octaves. FWIW You can easily turn a square wave into a triangle one, and with careful choice of resistors and back-to-back (germanium) diodes you get a reasonable ...

Re: Which organs were used in these vintage recordings?...
Thinking about it they must've been. n I guess phase locked between harmonics too? I haven't seen a deep dive into how that's all arranged. Perhaps I'll move the vintage synths that are leant up against my D-85 and do some investigating.

Re: Which organs were used in these vintage recordings?...
The YC was the pick of the Reface bunch for me, lots of fun :) Probably befits (rather outstrips) my level of organ playing. I always fancied picking up a Yamaha SK-20 after enjoying the PASS (Pulse Analog Synthesis System) engine that is used in some of the Electones like D-85. It's nice and soft ...

Re: Which organs were used in these vintage recordings?...
DX7 is a very strong contender, I agree, and it fits with so much of the keyboard work in other Sade tracks. I used a Juno 60 to play the specific part in a covers band back in the previous century...  You mean a millennium ago? I can talk I haven't played keys in public for over ...

Re: Which organs were used in these vintage recordings?...
That Sade track isn't a real organ. It's a synth — possibly a Roland Juno 6 (or 60 or 106 — they all sound the same).... Rare bit of trolling by you Hugh? (; Did you intend to trigger the synth pedants into replying?? The 6/60 & 106 sound similar but, well, nah I’ll leave it there  So my first ...

Re: Nord Wave slots
I don't have my Wave up at the moment to check I'm explaining exactly right but the way to think of it is the Program is your 'sound'. And your sound consists of two slots which can be the same/edited differently or chosen from programs elsewhere. They're only called A or B and cannot be named ...

Re: Nord Wave slots
I'm gonna need a bit more explanation of what you're doing and what you're trying to achieve. To edit a slot you simply have to have it in focus. Tweak away and then you're editing that slot. If you want to choose a sound from another program for that slot you have to hold the relevant slot button ...

Re: Advice please - new MacBook pro, M4 or M4pro chip
5. The macbook air just came out - if you want 100% silence machine this might be your best choice The M3 Air at least is not 100% silent, it suffers (or rather I suffer) from whine when using USB audio interfaces at 32 sample buffers. Not sure if it's USB polling whine or perhaps some other ...

Re: Viewing monitors connected to a Mac Studio before purchace.
Obvs it'll be dependent on viewing distance and size of screen so really I'd go on PPI vs outright pixel count. I came across this article on macOS PPI the other day which I found interesting https://bjango.com/articles/macexternaldisplays2/ It's a few years old now though so I'm not sure if it's ...

SOS gear photos are always great quality!
Simple one to say: I really appreciate the size, resolution and framing of the photos stored on the Sound On Sound website :) When I’m looking up gear, very often I’ll jump to a SOS image link to get a clear picture of the gear in question, even if I perhaps don’t intend to read the review. Seems to ...

Re: Is the Mac mini M4 silent?
I say USB polling but that was just one or two comments I'd previously read n just thinking about it now, I suppose such a noise shouldn't change in frequency with a change in sample buffers. It's one of those noises where if you turn your head you can't hear it. Just doing a cursory Google now n it ...

Re: Is the Mac mini M4 silent?
Just for completeness, I don't believe the M3 Macbook Air has any fans. I've certainly never heard anything from mine. I can't say categorically that your M3 MBA does have a fan but I reckon Apple would be singing it from the rooftops if it didn't. My M1 MBP definitely has a fan but I have never ...

Just for completeness, I don't believe the M3 Macbook Air has any fans. I've certainly never heard anything from mine. However, when I run it at 32 sample buffers with a couple of different USB audio interfaces I am able to hear a faint whine coming from in between the top of the keyboard and the ...

Re: Pitfalls in mixing Behringer System 100, 2500 & 900 series modules?
I've been meaning to try using some Hz/V keytracking for things like filter and oscillator mod depths, curious as to how natural it might sound. I have a Klavis Flexshaper which is much like Oberheim's Tracking Generators n so can approximate some logarithmic/exponential curves. I tried it once on ...

Re: Pitfalls in mixing Behringer System 100, 2500 & 900 series modules?
The other weird one was Korg's insistence on using Herz/volt for the keyboard to oscillator interface but octave/volt for the oscillator and filter modulation inputs, which meant that it was impossible to "play" the filters in tune from the keyboard or to get them to track the keyboard pitch in a ...

Re: Switch: instrument routing controller from Flock Audio
Personally I find these switchers rather baffling. I mean I think I understand the basic concept behind them but, musicians don't want to use mixers or MIDI channels any more?
What happens when you want to hear two instruments at the same time??
Baffling but each to their own I suppose.

Re: HELP: How Do I Create Single Cycle Waveforms?
To have a waveform usable over quite a few octaves you really need a wavetable with at least several band-limited waveforms, each tailored to suit a particular frequency range, so you avoid aliasing with high notes and dull bass notes because they lack the required upper harmonics. Have a read here ...

How to ascertain dirty ground MBA / Ableton Move + neat solution
I have a natty 15" M3 MacBook Air and recently picked up an Ableton Move which is also pretty nifty. Been having fun getting into the latter mainly as a controller for Live.
