Re: REW readings. How to understand impulse time?
Nope. I'd be worried about speaker software that gave me half a second's latency!!!

Re: REW readings. How to understand impulse time?
Hmm, interesting again, Wonks. Using the impulse filter, the peak is around 4K. So a 4k blip bouncing back from 70 metres away????? Makes even less sense now! No idea about the colours, the help function on REW is only understandable to someone with a PhD in audio it seems to me. No Sub yet, I ...

Re: Editing Audio In Logic ???
If you’ve got the latest version of Logic just use the new clip gain tool. Create a separate region for the note on the waveform and use your mouse to pull the volume up or down. It’s something that should have been in Logic years ago but it’s fantastic. Makes editing breaths and sibilance in a vocal ...

Re: REW readings. How to understand impulse time?
Interesting. I didn’t calibrate the interface but I did use a calibrated measurement mic. But I don’t think it’s the interface as the spike doesn’t show when I took a reading right up in front of a speaker as part of trying to sort my desk reflections. As for buildings etc there are loads of houses a ...

Re: REW readings. How to understand impulse time?
I did a whole load of readings before and after adding my new traps. I also moved my main speakers back a bit to try and remove a c 3k anomaly which is seemingly caused by desk reflections. The blip is in all of them. Most odd.

REW readings. How to understand impulse time?
Anyone here a whizz with Room EQ Wizard? I'm doing some readings on my room and on the impulse response graph I have a strange peak at 418ms. According to my small brain's calculations this time equates to around 144 metres in distance. How can I get a 30dB spike here if my studio is nowhere near ...

Best place for bass traps in vaulted ceiling?
My room already has a lot of trapping in its corners and on the flat parts of its walls plus a cloud at my mix position etc and am pretty happy with how it sounds. I am about to buy a sub however and thought some extra bass control wouldn’t go amiss. The room has a vaulted ceiling about 12 foot high ...

Re: Where to buy poly fibre boards for room treatment?
These are interesting too but as it's a Chinese vendor you've got no idea what they're made from or what their absorption specs are. But at 12 for £28 it's almost worth buying to find out. Thoughts?

The s/m overtones are quite odd too. Hugh seemed to find it strangely quickly.

That's the problem, you try and go all green and buy recycled panels and it ends up choking you to death!

Re: Where to buy poly fibre boards for room treatment?
Yes I saw that. But I assume that's if you're using them as part of the fabric of the building as per building regs etc. There are lots of things in a private house or home studio that are hugely flammable. I have a seven yard long wall of books, for example, which is my library and top-end diffusor ...

Where to buy poly fibre boards for room treatment?
Interested in checking out polyester fibre batts rather than rock wool for bass traps. Anyone know/recommend a supplier that sells them in small numbers? Cheers.

Re: Time for a monitor upgrade.Which to get?
Thanks Wonks/Hugh, No I mix at fairly modest levels, so lack of volume wouldn’t be an issue. The Genelec sub doesn’t actually have a volume control which seems odd? It seems to have sensitivity switching only? Is this an issue? Also, if you switch it off I presume the LP filter is taken out of cir ...

Re: Time for a monitor upgrade.Which to get?
Genelec don’t recommend the 7040 for the 1030s ‘if you want to play loud’ according to their now-closed forum. Not sure what this means really? What was your thinking on the crossover slopes? Its crossover is fixed at 85 whereas the 1030s are optimistically rated down to 52, although they’re struggl ...
