Re: Analog mixers with DAW workflow?
Yep, spot on. The facility for comfort reverb can be really important for some vocalists. The fact that RME interfaces have it built in is yet another reason why so many of us (mostly who have been around for a while) use RME and totalmix - pretty much everything you would want to do is possible…

Re: Analog mixers with DAW workflow?
I agree we need more info before I can say for sure, but it sounds like you are trying to monitor AFTER whatever it is you are recording has been into your computer, through your DAW then back out of your computer. Hence you are getting latency, and I can understand that regardless of how low you ...

Re: How are my bass traps looking and what shall I fill them with?
Yo JJ So I have GIK monster traps in the corners diagonally floor to ceiling with rockwool in the triangular void behind them, then GIK tri trap’s floor to ceiling on the back wall in 1 corner and the other side where there’s a door so the trap is at the end on my rack as close as I can to the cor ...

Re: How are my bass traps looking and what shall I fill them with?
Hi mate, Ive realised that this is the next post on from what we were previously discussing. Those traps you've made aren't going to do very much if you use them on their own i'm sorry to say. They are just too small to be effective with the material you say you want to produce and the bass end that ...

Re: UAD Polymax synth …for free
Totally agree with Elf. If you just want a usable synth that does the basics well, its great. Sounds good, easy to program and it doesn't have that 'preset 1' on every preset type thing - if you know what I mean. You rarely want the super evolving, effects laden, huge stereo, super wide sparkling ...

Re: T-Bone stakes
I had one, it sounded horrible. I sold it.
Didn't do well on anything even remotely loud, the 'tone' was pretty iffy IMO.
Sounded 'fuzzy' to my ears, the magical 'top end smoothing' just made it sound dull and ordinary.
I wouldn't bother.
Sorry.

Re: Room treatment, taken measurements, what's next?
My trapping is GIK in the main…. Which of their bass products do you use? The Turbo Traps (the cylindrical ones) seem interesting. Practical, too. Something for the potted plants to sit on! I do very bass heavy music in a similar maybe slightly larger room Have you been able to incorporate a sub i ...

Re: Room treatment, taken measurements, what's next?
Hi there Re bass trap location, as Hugh says corners are a good place to start, but can I also recommend behind the desk on the front wall, with the most being up high where wall meets ceiling. Same on back wall- this is typically ‘dead space’ so a good location for it. Get some thick traps behind yo ...

Re: AKAI Professional MIDI STEREO DIGITAL SAMPLER S2000
Looks like a mod. For something? No idea what tho. The S2000’s with the optional board should have RCA’s for the digi I/O Regardless, given what you’ve said I’d still be inclined to find a software sample converter convert your akai samples to WAV and then trigger them inside your DAW. The S2000 is a ...

Re: AKAI Professional MIDI STEREO DIGITAL SAMPLER S2000
What Hugh is saying is that digital I/O was only available with the optional multi output board. You need one with the red and white RCA’s to transfer digitally. But fear not, you still have the stereo analog I/O which will work. I say fear not since I would imagine you are sentencing yourself to u ...

Re: Production advice
Cymbals! You have no cymbals? Well I think I heard one, once. Thems is good ear candy.. And maybe a tambourine in the chorus, give it a bit of swing. There's plenty going on and I'd be worried that of you added more midrange stuff it could get cluttered... Just my 2p. Enjoyed it though, and ...

Re: Character/vintage vocal mics under £1000
No disrespect intended to anyone but what do people mean when they speak of "character" and "vintage" in relation to sound? My interpretation Character: saturated or mildly distorted, with an ‘unflat’ frequency response - usually a bump in low or high mids Vintage: a not massively extended top end.

Re: Cubase 14 has landed
Hi all, been using C14 all day today - seems pretty stable. The new mediabay audition features are pretty handy - it all just works better for those of us that work with loops. Having the whole mixconsole in the lower window is really helpful - I never really open the mix console window so it gives ...

Re: M4 Mac Mini
I made the switch about 18 months ago. Perfectly happy tbh. If you believe the pre release hype, all new m4 macs will come with a minimum of 16gb RAM so that may be enough for you, but as others have said increasing to 32gb may help future proof it. By all accounts the entry level m4 chip is ...

Re: UAD Release SSL Native and Gouge Customers with Charges after saying DSP users would get Native versions free.
I’ve said on this forum before that UAD have got a bit of a problem- they support more platforms than anyone else; Mac, PC and DSP and they have to continue to do that since although with advent of native many people (including me) jumped off the UAD 2 cards, they still have the Apollo range with u ...

Re: Help me with buying Tascam portastudio
I'm a 100% with James on this one. The ONLY reason I would buy one of these things is transfer some old 4 tracks into my DAW. The Porta 02 was a very budget machine in its day so assuming it works properly (unlikely) it would probably fulfil this purpose but not much else. If you're looking for it ...

Re: DSP audio interface for T-Racks 5 Max bundle
Hi, in short, you can't do this. Interfaces with DSP fall into 2 camps - those that have specific plugins that run on them - Universal Audio and Antelope, and those that use the DSP to run mixers eg RME. You can't run any old plugin on a DSP interface it has to be specific to the manufacturer. so ...

Re: 2 bass peaks in the mixing room
To the OP I would put bass traps on the back wall as well as the corners and maybe a soffit trap where the wall meets the ceiling on the same back wall. Also do you have any bass trapping behind your speakers or desk? Remember bass frequencies don’t just fire out of the front of your speakers…. If yo ...

I’m sure the SSL will be excellent…thought about one myself, but then I’d have 19 preamps…when I only use 2 these days.

Re: RME Octamic vs SLL Pure Drive Octo vs ?
Hi Paul, not much of your post really makes sense to me. You say you only need 2 mic inputs, but then you're asking us for an opinion on two 8 channel mic preamps? Am I missing something? Also you say the UFX II/III has no growth for expansion? But they’ve got ADAT/MADI so you can add more inputs in ...
