Re: Steve Vai - Teeth of the Hydra (Official Music Video)
Not sure if these have been posted already but the run down of the guitars spec is here: https://youtu.be/1ehGGTS83m0 And Steve discussing it and the influence behind it: https://youtu.be/eN9r0jlhUpU Personally I like the bones of the track, though it does get a little "stale" perhaps as it progress ...

Re: Line 6 DL4 maximum delay time.
Bit leftfield but have you seen these new TC pedals Arp?

Very tempted myself I must admit, not a lot of demos on YouTube yet but it does look intriguing.

Re: Active guitars
Funnily enough I had an EMG SA set in a partscaster for years which had the straightforward vol, tone, tone config (I.e. normal pots not the expanders Wonks mentions). Interestingly though my set was about 10-15yrs old when I got it and came from a pro session/studio player who had used it daily for ...

Re: Koch Dummyload Home improvement
What matters is how efficient the speaker is, not the max handling. I have coincidentally, just bought a Celestion Greenback from a mate and, checking the specs, it's pretty efficient (98dB for 1W/m). I can't find any data for the HH but I doubt it will be any more efficient (the most efficient ...

Re: Koch Dummyload Home improvement
What amp - and perhaps more crucially - what speaker(s) are you running? I had a similar issue with my Laney VC30, I run it via a Marshall/GT power soak but it was still too loud. The Laney had it's original HH Invader which was a 75w speaker so it just wasn't working hard enough at bedroom levels ...

Re: A Fundraising Concert to Celebrate the Music and life of Jimi Hendrix on the 80th Anniversary of his Birth.
Nice idea but I would caution you that Hendrix's legacy and interests is very strictly controlled by his estate (hence why the recent biopic movie had zero Hendrix licenced music in it) and I'd imagine they already have plans for his anniversary though whether that involves a concert or not would be ...

Re: Double neck wiring ideas
That would be amazing Wonks, thank you. I'm thinking of using the lower horn switch as the neck choice which should make it less likely to knock. Due to the distance involved I'm presuming I can wire the negative on the pickups to the switch then run a live/negative to the pots? I did that on my ...

Re: Double neck wiring ideas
Hi Wonks, thanks for the reply. Hope you're well chap. Apologies entirely my fault, Don Felder did keep the Gibson wiring of neck selector and shared pickup selector it was Alex Lifeson who had the three toggles on his white EDS. My current thought is to have a three toggles, 2 as a pickup selector ...

Double neck wiring ideas
Hi Folks, long time no post. Hope everyone's keeping safe and sane! I was gifted a double neck kit (EDS 1275 based) as part of a leaving gift recently and have been enjoying building it and learning some new techniques in staining the body and neck. Sadly though it seems the wiring kit is garbage ...

Re: Marshalls...
Thanks for the addition, I have looked at these and wondered what they were like.
As with the Origin the 5w is a loud 5w, a good power soak is a must for these amps where you want to use the natural drive.

Re: Any potential issues using a P/S with a 2 pin Euro plug with BOSS boards?
It might be the Boss included PSU allows you to change the pin ends, or looking at Amazon you can get a replacement for less than a fiver. Or as noted as long as the power requirements match use whatever PSU you like. I'd use a replacement over a travel converter as often they aren't great at ...

Re: Please help with project guitar electronics upgrade to achieve ES-175 / Metheny jazz tone.
As you've added it was/is a mic mount, the output was routed via the 2nd jack.
As noted the real key for this tone is flatwound strings. An absolutely essential element for an authentic jazz tone.
A great project, enjoy.

Re: Dirt pedals are the wire coathangers of the music industry
It's a new experience for me (having played for 27yrs and counting) as I just loved my Laney VC30 too much to change. Finally realised I need pure valve drive tone, settled on the DSL20H after 6 odd months research an haven't looked back. I'm keeping them for fun or occasional tones but otherwise I ...

Re: Dirt pedals are the wire coathangers of the music industry
I had a Marshall JCM800 and never liked the Marshall distortion, I used the clean channel and distortions of multi effects.... I'm definitely more of a classic Marshall drive person, the JCM800 added (I believe) a diode in the clipping stage to add extra drive to the valves. Which is what adds the ...

Re: Dirt pedals are the wire coathangers of the music industry
Completely agree with all Wonks said above, the CE2W is incredible and adds so much to both pedals. The CE1 and CE2 are very different chorus effects so having both in one pedal is a brilliant tool. Actually it would be a nice upgrade to be able to add a remote to swap between Chorus modes (or ...

Re: Dirt pedals are the wire coathangers of the music industry
The DSLs are very nice. And if you sell most of those pedals (I could see the point of keeping the SD1), it will just about pay for itself ... Not far off probably Sam! I've learnt my lesson selling pedals though. Sold an original Drivemaster (I know, I know) and the remorse was such I vowed never ...

garrettendi wrote:Of those, I’d keep the SD1 and the GV2!
Oddly the SD1 doesn't get any use, hasn't in years but maybe it's worth a try with the Marshall.
The GV2 is a nice pedal and the resonance control is genius. Just didn't quite scratch the itch for me but a great pedal for covers or studio tones.

Re: Dirt pedals are the wire coathangers of the music industry
Sorry Dave! We chatted about it yonks back when I swapped it over just to make sure it wasnt going to cause problems. The problem I have with the HT Drive is it just has too much gain for me at min. The 12AT7 did calm things but not enough really. I actually use it as a bass preamp now, volume up ...

Re: Dirt pedals are the wire coathangers of the music industry
After reading every Marshall review written in the first part of 2020, a DSL20H which I run via a power soak into a cab with a Celestion Greenback. I'm always on the 10w setting. The general consensus from those reviews was that the DSL could do everything the Origin could, but not vice versa. The ...

Re: Pedalboard patch cables...
Thanks Wonks, oddly I think I have one of each (first was PW then D'Addario). I hadn't spotted that until I checked my Amazon history.
Same packaging even.
Either way I really like them, though I am tempted to go with the flat cables next time.
