Re: I want to sell my Roland Jupiter-6

It's far from worthless but you'll find a number of online listings at silly prices that haven't sold. A Jupiter 6 which needed repair sold on ebay recently for £2,595 although it appears to have been re-listed and sold for £3,100. Read into that what you will. There is a market for them. However th...

Re: UA 6176 SoS review

cashhewn wrote: Mon Jul 15, 2024 12:43 am... in the product manual for the UA 6176 they quote our dear friend Hugh Robjohns’ SoS review of the device several times, yet I somehow cannot find this review online

The mentions of Hugh in the manual for the UA6176 refer to his review of the 1176LN in June 2001, which can be found here.

Re: I need more than 2 Midi ports on my audio interface for recording...

I know you cannot use two USB AIs for audio in Windows but I pretty sure you can run 2 MIDI interfaces. Yes, you can use multiple MIDI interfaces on Windows. I use two ESI M8U eX MIDI interfaces with 16 DIN ports on each. I dont know if you can use two of the same thing at the same time [same drive...

Re: Arturia MiniBrute 2s Alternative?

I'd echo Arpy's recommendation for the Hydrasynth Desktop. The same engine as the original Hydrasynth has, a small footprint, sounds amazing and in terms of bang for the buck you'll struggle to find better.

Re: Oldest Known Human Voice Recording

Very interesting! I read an article a while back which speculated about the possibility of audio recordings being unintentionally encoded in the grooves of ancient pottery as it was being made on the wheel. I very much doubt it would be a common thing, even if possible, but the prospect of a fragmen...

Re: How to run old soundcard like Icon Cube 4 Nano on Win11?

The product page lists compatibility as being from Windows XP to Windows 10 only and the latest driver available is V1.37.5 (Win 10). Unless someone has a hack or other workaround you may have to consider getting a newer interface.

Re: SOS Competitions - tiebreaker removed

I seem to recall the questions are required to define it as a competition. Without these it's technically a raffle as no skill is required and there are peculiar legal/financial implications for this. I'm sure the people at SOS can clarify this and I'm happy to be proven wrong. I refer the honourab...

Re: How graphic should imagery in lyrics be?

The nature of the arrangement (orchestra / choral etc.) seems less important to me than the intention of the artist here. "Sometimes, bright daggers cut my veins" is a perfectly valid lyric and a lot tamer than many. It puts me in mind of NiN's 'Hurt' (famously covered by Johnny Cash), whi...

Re: How graphic should imagery in lyrics be?

In my view it's all about context. There are plenty of tracks out there that use profanity gratuitously and that doesn't work for me but I've written two songs (neither released) which use the 'F' word. Both are about 'spiky' things in life. I searched long and hard for alternatives but ended up lea...

Re: Suggestion on a Cross-Platform Simple DAW

I'd be inclined to go for Reaper . Cross platform, free/cheap/very reasonable depending on the uses to which it's put (all of which are done on an honour system), a lot of plugins that don't look pretty but work well, and I've seen Martin W. do amazing things with it! It does a few things slightly d...

I have the opposite problem.
