Benchmark Designer loses two family members in horrible attack

Many of you know Benchmark Media's chief engineer, John Siau. The latest issue of Sound on Sound August 2022 just did a review of his amazing headphone amp. His Benchmark DAC1 and its successors are well known in mastering, mixing, and listening rooms worldwide. I am sorry to report that John's son,...

Re: Barefoot MM45 review question

I have not heard the Barefoot MM45 but I compared the Focal Trios to my Focal Twins in my studio. They like the MM45's separate out the instruments a little more than the Twins. This is supposed to allow you to fine tune things better with the different instruments being on their own separate plane....

Re: Midi boxes vs USB for triggering keyboard in a DAW

There are disadvantages of USB. Most annoying is not having a piece of gear switched on when my DAW starts up, which then generates an error in the DAW, requiring a shut-down/re-launch. I have a few USB/MIDI adapter cables to pull a few non-USB items into the fold, but unless each cable is from a d...

Midi boxes vs USB for triggering keyboard in a DAW

I have a Roland Jupiter X and Roland FP 90-X keyboards. Both have USB connections and they seem to work just fine connected to Cubase when I record midi through the USB. On my older Roland D50 I of course have to use my Motu box. It seems the big advantage of staying with the midi boxes is you can r...

Focal Clear MG Professional headphones

The Focal Clear Professional open back headphones came out in 2017. We see now in about 4 years they updated them with the new Clear MG Professional. The the sound is very close to the original Clear's which had received high praise by many. The only difference between Clear MG's and Clear MG Pro ve...

Re: New PMC monitors look promising.

I would love to own the PMC 6-2 but costing $8,500 for my project studio monitors is too much. It looks like the Barefoot MM45's are one of the better choices in my price range

Re: SSL UF8 Controller is a winner

[ACCOUNT DELETED] wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 8:56 pm What I don't understand about the UF8 is no transport buttons, why did they do that?

With the Key1 pushed, the transport controls are on the top buttons and they work well With 2 controllers, I keep the one UF8 on Softkey 1 and use the 2nd one on different favorite commands.

Re: New PMC monitors look promising.

I currently have the Focal Twins and Focal sub and my mixes come out the way I and clients expect them to be. I have had them since 2010 and I think its about time to update my monitors. I tried the Focal Trio's. They do provide more separation with the instruments and improved front to back, but th...

New PMC monitors look promising.

https://www.soundonsound.com/news/new-monitor-range-pmc The PMC 6-2 really caught my eye. A 3 way PMC in this lower price range has never been done before. I am hopeful they are as good as I think they will be. I have heard the Two Two 6's and liked them a lot. I hope this new 6-2 three way monitor ...

Re: SSL UF8 Controller is a winner

If you think the UF8 is too expensive, they added in the Drum and Vocal channel plug ins from SSL with a purchase of the UF8. So your getting a bit more for your money.

SSL UF8 Controller is a winner

I had the Mackie Controller and Expander in my studio for many years and I figured it was time to try out the new SSL UF8 controller. I will get to the negative news first. There are no dedicated transport controls or jog wheel. Currently the fader volume number does not show up in the scribble stri...

Gibson 2020 335 Guitar

I just received a late 2020 made Gibson 335 Figured cherry red guitar. First off it looks so beautiful and it brings a smile to your face when you look and play it. I found the craftmanship to be excellent and no flaws in construction, great fret workmanship, no sharp edges or quality issues. It loo...

The Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro headphones were released in 2016 and have received lots of praise from people on the net. I have used the Beyerdynamic 990's for a while and I still like them. Yamaha CP88 Review

Another great SOS review for their readers. Thanks Robin for providing pro and con insight on this keyboard. I want to mention that the very good Nord Grand is $1,000 more than the CP88 and the Nord Stage 3 is over $2,000 more. So in theory, you could buy a Yamaha Modx8, Modx7 or Roland Jupit...

Re: Hello, I've come back

Welcome back. I have also taken a break for the SOS forums until recently. When I started recording back in the 80's going to a recording studio and, having a home studio was a big deal. Being able to record an album and for it to sound good was huge. Now everyone is recording music through cheap DA...

Re: Roland Jupiter X and the SOS review

Based on what Roland has said, the ACB takes too much CPU and cannot handle high poly which is why it is only used with mono and limited poly. Therefore they went to ABM which offers more flexibility than ACB ever could. So we have The System 8 with ACB for those who want a tiny bit closer to the ol...

Re: Roland Jupiter X and the SOS review

Most people focus on how the Jupiter X sounds in providing the Jupiter and Juno sounds which in my opinion they sound great. However the keyboard also gets great bread and butter sounds as well as shown in this video.
