Re: Sound Devices choosing a recorder
I power my MixPre 6 (MK I) from USB C power banks (I have a couple). I’ll leave some rechargeable AA batteries in the included sled should I need to change the power bank mid recording but I never really need to. It’s a much cheaper solution than L-mount batteries and works well for me. A 20000mAh po ...

Re: Changing headphones: DT880 Pro for HD490 Pro
I want to thank everybody for their reply! I won't sell the DT880 but still am very curious if there is a night/day difference between the both of them, and if it's worth to "upgrade". Initially, i was aiming for Neumann's NDH30 but (luckily) i saw that the cable is connected to the right ear, and ...

Re: Best Closed Back Headphones for Monitoring Classical Music
I'd be very interested to hear your appraisal of the Neumann NDH 30 (Open Back) for listening to or mixing classical. Having lived with them for a while now, I think they're really remarkable in terms of accuracy but more importantly the sound stage presented. Bob Hey Bob, It seems that not many ...

Re: Subwoofer With My 8020a Pair
The Neumann NDH30s have a great bottom end. My mixes on them so far translate very well. I mainly mix on KH310s at work and KH120s at home so I opted for the Neumann open backs to supplement the 120s. No regrets whatsoever.

Re: Equipment to measure very quiet sounds at about 100Hz?
A few years ago, I used to hear something like you’ve described late at night. Very low frequency hum and very low level. Not sure what exact frequency it was but it was around 100Hz and also it didn’t pulse like the example you’ve created. It lasted for months, maybe even years. At the time, I lived ...

Re: Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro 80 ohms occasional distortion!
How do your 80ohm DT770s sound when driven by the SSL 2+?
You could just run your mixer outputs into the SSLs line inputs and monitor from that.

Balanced headphones?
I’ve just bought a pair of Neumann NDH30 headphones. They sound excellent to my ears and I like them a lot. In the literature it says “the NDH30 is supplied with a cloth covered cable that is internally balanced”. Now, I’ve heard about balanced headphones, but don’t they require a 4 pin connector of ...

Re: SubZero transformer DI boxes
I almost agree with you but Orchid kit is much more expensive since they handed distribution over to Showbitz, (Micro DI has gone from £28 to £43, Classic nearly doubled from £36 to £68) still not expensive but less of an impulse buy price. And I want transformer DIs which Orchid don't do. Ah! I did ...

Re: SubZero transformer DI boxes
Why? You’re not going to find anything desirable in a 15 quid DI. Just get some more Orchids. They’re cheap enough!

Re: Low Cost Drum Room Mics
Just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons……. I usually prefer cardioids as drum room mics. The crucial thing I find though, is to point the mics away from the kit so the drums are in the null of the polar pattern. This way the mics are only capturing the reflections of the room and no direct sound. I ...
