Re: Bass strings for Jazz bass

James Jamerson is supposed to have used LaBella flats in a slightly heavier gauge, I have no direct experience of those string though. I’ve tried them once and didn’t get on with them but yes, they are the authentic motown bass string as used by Jamerson. Guages are .052 - .110 so they’re definitel...

That was Bernard Edwards of Chic IIRC but it was possibly DD too 😀

Re: Bass strings for Jazz bass

Thomastik-Infeld (TI) Jazz Flat Wound strings are what I have on one of my precision basses and they’ve been on it for about 10 years now. I’ll probably never change them. Best flats I’ve ever tried. I use a foam mute with them too.

At what point does it stop being a musical instrument and start being a fashion accessory.

Re: Bass kit finally finished

Looks great Wonks! Those KickAss bridges are great. I have one on my jazz bass. I’ve had the Leo Quan BadAss II bridge (with blank saddles that had to have slots filed in them) before on a bass but I really like the adjustable string spacing on the Hipshot version.

Re: Omni Lavalier Mic into Guitar Amp?

In addition to the issues that Drew points out, that mic requires a dc voltage in order to operate and a standard guitar amp cant provide that.

He’d be better off looking at dedicated ukulele pickups if he wants to use a guitar amp, or a proper XLR microphone if there’s a PA system.

Re: Mic Proximity

what would you expect as compared with the Audix? Well, I’m not familiar with the mic you have but as it’s hypercardioid the 58 will have a wider pickup pattern. It might give you a clue as to whether a wider pattern will help or not. Like James, I also know some players who dislike clip-ons but it...

Re: Mic Proximity

I'm currently using a decent Audix dynamic mic. Which Audix mic are you using? The OM7 in particular really needs to be worked very close and very much on axis. I'd imagine it would benefit from compression, but who has that on a PA board for live performance. These days, with the popularity of dig...
