Re: This museum is not obsolete
I've been a long time follower of Sam's 'Look Mum, No Computer' YouTube channel. His approach to modular synth module design is actually quite innovative, and if you are into DIY synths at his projects are definitely worth seeking out.. I also love his whole series about finding an old pipe organ ...

Think yourself lucky you don’t have a Hammond B3 as well.

Re: The "Mac Way" again
I guess the problem is that iTunes isn't really a thing any more. The Music app has pretty much taken over all its duties. You can import files (with the File/Import menu) on the desktop Music app Check in the Desktop they are added to the library. And then assuming you have both devices on the same ...

Re: One Synth Challenge 2024
That was a lot of fun.
A great set of submissions again.
I did try to include a little Easter egg in my 2 tunes, in that I tried to program the same lead sound for both (albeit on very different synths)

When, and why did key changes go out of fashion?
Related to another thread about me going through and cataloguing all the tracks on my NAS, we have been playing some old 70s era pop tunes this evening. A key change wasn't uncommon. It was almost part of the formula of what went into a pop song back then. Is it the grid/loop nature of pop today ...

Do big stadium tours cost that much more than back then?
I've been spending some of my Christmas downtime cataloguing and organising a lot of music files on my NAS, sorting out artwork thumbnails etc... This has got me reminiscing as I pass some of the big tour live albums in my collection that were of tours where I was in the audience. I remember seeing ...

Re: Tom Article
What I did find interesting, was that the huge iconic tom sound so much a PC signature, came from concert toms with no bottom heads. They also mentioned that there were triggers on some of the toms. I think this kit was built for the We Can't Dance tour. If memory serves, when I saw them on that ...

Re: Tom Article
Sort of apropos to this. yesterday I watched a YouTube showing Nic Collins and Brandon Toews build Phil Collins touring Gretsch kit which hadn't been out of the flight cases for decades. https://youtu.be/FAbAR1Eu6UE?si=wo37J80_KsBOsQG_ There was a point when Nic helps his dad into the room and onto ...

Re: Sticky fader on A&H SQ5
According to the manual there is a Fader Calibration tab. I could try that for sure. I'll report back. I had a similar problem with the windows in my Megane! This is what happens when a simple servo system with motors and limit switches is given over to computer control. We are all doomed I tell ya ...

Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
I'd also add that much of Rick's work has been just on piano. From his classic work on Morning has Broken and Life on Mars to his 18 Piano albums

Re: The Behringer Keyboards 'n' Stuff Thread #3
Also Rick Wakeman did much of his work on, Minimoogs and Hammond organs. Both have titchy keyboards. Although he also played piano sometimes. But he has always made up for it by making sure he has a lot of them :) https://pienemmatpurot.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/wakeman_1973.jpg https://www ...

Sticky fader on A&H SQ5
Fader 1 on our SQ5 is not automatically going down to zero, when you page between layers or recall a scene. Any ideas? Has anyone else seen this? Ours has been flawless since we bought it around 2017. Is switch cleaner worth trying? (I don’t know if motorised faders would play nice with switch c ...

Nice idea. Like Elf I'd be tempted to add a screen.
For under £60 on Amazon you could get an 8" touchscreen HDMI jobbie which could be affixed to the rig somehow

Re: What hardware synth would you like to see being made again?
Be aware this is a Zombie thread that the forum software has decided to show as new. It’s thrown up a few like this overnight, so just check the date of the last post if a post looks a bit weird. They walk among us! I’d quite like a modern recreation of a Hammond Novachord. (For those that don’t kno ...

Re: Panic! party music dilemma
In my cable bag I always keep a USB-C to mini-jack and a Lightning to mini-jack. and a mini jack to 2x1/4" lead and a whole bunch of 1/4" to Phono adaptors for just such an occasion. I suspect that, unless Currys (who do sell the USB-C and Lightning headphone adaptors) are less than 20 minutes away ...

Advice from Cubase users. File conversion
I have been using Logic now since probably 2009. I've recently come across some old Cubase projects, and I'd quite like to resurrect them in some way. If I download the Cubase trial, will I be able to open .cpr files from the mid 2000s and from there bounce out audio to import into logic? Or export ...

Re: Small ish Digital mixer for solo artist?
I've been pretty happy with the Zoom L20R and it's companion iPad app (And it does pretty good multi-track recordings too)
The L20 and it's little brother the L12 are both basically the same engine, but with control surfaces rather than the app (But be aware the faders are not motorised)

Re: Midi controller with decent keyboard?
Most dedicated 61 note controllers I've tried seem to always be a bit sub-optimal in the touch department. I think I related this story before, I always remember the Roland D50 having a lovely synth key response, but I put that down to nostalgia. Then a few years ago, I mate of mine had pulled his ...
