Re: Another “gotcha” from the streaming revolution.

I don't see the major streamers disappearing any time soon. Particularly as they continue to fill their rosters with music they generate themselves (and hence own the mechanical and songwriting IP and avoid paying 0.02p per stream to anyone ) Even more so, if they start to use generative AI to prod...

Re: Complete Noob Needing Advice

Some excellent advice above. Also think about how you’re going to manage your backing tracks? I’ve seen all kinds ranging from simply a tablet running Spotify playlists through various hardware units up to a laptop running Ableton Starting out, an iPad or something running a dedicated live track app...

Re: Kurzweil PC4-7

After an hour or two in PMT Bristol, I went for the compact. It’s waterfall keybed certainly isn’t fully weighted, but I found it solid and responsive both for synths and organs, but gave a pretty satisfying feel for piano sounds (I can’t pretend to be a ‘proper’ pianist anyway) But I really didn’t ...

I know that if I had, a a big car, and b, a roadie to do the heavy lifting, or c, not be in my mid 60s, there would have been different choices to put into the mix. But these things are not the case, and the Keylab was too big, and too heavy for me now. As it happens, due to the generosity of the wo...

Another “gotcha” from the streaming revolution.

I discovered another way the music business hasn’t really thought through the whole streaming thing. We have (had?)* 300+ CDs at least 20% of which are too old or not sufficiently mainstream to be on the streaming platforms. I was pleased to find that Apple Music, at least would add CDs you rip to y...

Re: Hardware equivalent to Logic’s chord trigger?

I’ll have to see what the launch pad can actually do with a hardware keyboard (I thought it needed Ableton). I got briefly excited by the keystep, but reading the manual, it stores one chord and plays the same chord transposing it to the note you play and I’m needing to define a chord per note. Hydr...

Re: Laptop vs. DAWless for live use: is it just me, or...?

When using a laptop live, you look boring, and it feels boring, simple as that. When I see a band live, or a solo artist, it’s all about movement, how they move, and interact with their instruments, I find this extremely interesting, that’s what playing live is all about, it’s a live "performa...

Hardware equivalent to Logic’s chord trigger?

Anyone know of there’s anny little gadget out there that allows you to program or play in complex chords that get triggered when you play a single note on a Midi controller?

I use chord trigger in MainStage all the time live, but I’d love to be able to replicate this in a hardware unit.

Re: Kurzweil PC4-7

In essence, yes.

Transporting a full 88 key and a 61 (and all the other stuff) is becoming a pain, (literally as far as my back goes) and there are gigs when rocking up with one board, a stand and no laptop would be more than adequate.

Re: Kurzweil PC4-7

Very! I've just been on a chat with one of the Thomann product specialists, and he describes it as a 'synth action' keybed and didn't think it was really what he'd describe as semi-weighted. I am starting to think that portability and good key feel are unobtainable unless I* spring for the No...

Kurzweil PC4-7

This is currently on my new keyboard shortlist. It sounds incredible, it can do lots of splits and layers, and obviously VAST, KB3, 6 Op DX compatible FM. It’s also fairly small and light. But I have no idea what the key bed is like. THere’s nowhere near me to try one. I’ve heard it described as sem...

Re: MainStage 3 (again...!)

In a Windows rig it's possible to translate those messages into what you need using a plug-in or the like. I'm not sure about the Mac, but maybe there is an equivalent? (I don't use MainStage.) Yes, in MainStage you can assign pretty much any midi CC to a MainStage control to do whatever you want. ...

I've looked through the MOXF manual, and it doesn't look like the favourite buttons send MIDI CC. I would interpret ‘punch’ as dynamics. And you’re saying you are capturing a loud Marshall. Re: Phantom Power Over CAT-6? SM7B > the sssnake Cat Snake 3MB > Cloud Lifter > A & H QU16

The sssnake Cat Snake 3FC isn't proper cat 6, it just uses the shielded 4 x twisted pairs in a cat 6 cable to pass the analogue signals between ssnake units and as long as you use grounded foil shielded cat 6 cable it should work OK with phantom power.
