Re: Is my Strat doomed or does yours also...?
Just wondering if someone has put a metric grub screw into an imperial hole and it's made just enough contact to bite in but not enough to have any strength. That may have led to the thread in the saddle being partially stripped, leading to the second collapse. I thought the saddle had been ...

Re: Is my Strat doomed or does yours also...?
Tbh, if you bought this new from a store for £2k, and it's still under warranty then I wouldn't be playing around with CA or PTFE, I'd take it back (again) and get them to sort it or give a refund and get something else.

That is awesome! EVH did some volume swell stuff - with a delay - on Cathedral, but this is a new level.

Re: In Ear Monitors recommendations please?
I'm very new to IEMs as we've just gone for 'silent stage' and I was recommended a pair of Shure SE215 as being reasonable vfm and sound. So far I've been happy with them though there is a learning curve with getting them placed correctly in the ear with the cable positioned snugly over the top of ...

Re: Headstock tuners
Personally I don't like clip on tuners - I find they don't read as well as pedal tuners - especially on bass. I have the TC Polytune 2 which has a nice big display so one can see it and never seems to have any problems.

Re: Studiomaster Clubxs Mixers
I am thinking of getting a used Allen and Heath Zed FX12. We need a couple of auxiliary sends which this has. Looks to be in good condition. I've got one and it's excellent. Very quiet - quieter than the singer's XR18 and a lot more reliable. And you get physical controls as well. I've got X32 ...

Re: X AIR XR16 16-Input Digital Mixer
I'm going to buck the trend slightly and say that I wouldn't recommend the XR18 in general and especially in your son's circumstances. We have one in our band which has been a source of endless problems that I've mentioned on another thread. However we may have been unlucky, as others on here ...

Re: Band looking at our first portable PA
Apologies if this has been been mentioned but you don't say what you are going to put through it? Obviously makes a difference to what you need. If you're asking about musical sources, the OP said: "We are about 10 people, 4 or 5 vocalists, 3 keyboards, one acoustic drum kit, one or two electric ...

Re: Band looking at our first portable PA
Another RCF vote here, I'm on my second set (not because they broke but just upgrading) and I can't find anything to complain about. Not cheap though. The only thing I'd say is that I note you're in the USA and I don't know how available they are over there, compared to say QSC and Yamaha. Apologies ...

Re: Small ish Digital mixer for solo artist?
When the X32 reached around 300,000 units sold somebody posted Thomann's returns figures and the X32 came out as one of the more reliable desks they sold. I've just googled and can't find current stats for sales or reliability but I did come across a US Church sound website that did a survey of ...

Re: Small ish Digital mixer for solo artist?
Behringer XR18 is a tablet lunchbox style affair and our singer has one, it's the most unreliable piece of gear I've ever seen! Avoid! In what respect? Mine has been 100% reliable, and I know of one studio that runs its entire system on a pair of them! If you're talking about wireless connection I ...

Re: Small ish Digital mixer for solo artist?
Hi Just to add my thoughts. You're a solo artist, presumably playing piano and singing with backing (drum) tracks. So consequently as a solo player/mixer operator combined, you don't want anything too difficult to use on the fly as you'll have limited time and there will be other considerations to ...

Re: Budget 10" Active Speaker Experiences Wanted
I've just bought a pair of 10 inch PA speakers - RCF 910a in the end - but I did demo the Alto TS410s and they were pretty good. On a £ per speaker basis, they come out pretty well. Didn't look at the TX series.

Re: Yamaha DXR10mk2 + DXS12 mk2 or RCF NX910 + 702as mk3?
I have now been able to try the FBT Promaxx 110a and EV ELX200-10p's. The EV's were my favourite and I actually preferred these to the both the FBT and the RCF HD10a mk5's. However, they have a loud buzzing master volume pot which was audible from FOH on some exposed keyboard parts. I have also ...

Re: Luthier supplier in Uk
I've used all of the above and can recommend them all, though Stewmac is USA based so the postage is quite expensive. My personal favourite is Northwest Guitars as I've found them very helpful and their delivery charges are sensible. I'm sure you know this so apologies if I'm teaching you to suck ...

Re: RCF 910
Did listen to the Altos, not bad but I was so impressed with the RCF 910s, I ordered them instead. And the 702 sub. Arrived last Saturday and I have to say the sound is awesome! Really impressive vocal sound. Got eight gigs between now and the end of the year to put them to the test.

Re: Advice for setting up a live sound system.
You say you're 'new to sound' - is that in an absolute beginner? The reason I ask is because the mixer you have is a digital mixer with lots of embedded functions which can get quite complex very quickly, so there is a learning curve which can be steepish to start. There are plenty of tutorial ...

RCF 910
Hi all. Currently in two bands, a three piece (occ a sax as well) which is electric drum kit and a four piece - mostly acoustic drum kit. I have a pair of RCF 312 tops and a studio spares 15 inch sub. I like the tops and will still keep them as spares but they are pretty heavy (around 20kg each) and ...

Re: Gear4Music sub-zero brand? Yes, no, maybe?
Anyone got experience of any Gear4Music sub-zero gear? Some of the prices look really good, for pretty well specified gear. But is it a case of you get what you pay for? Even if you are paying the big brands for stuff possibly made in the same factory sometimes? The drummer in one of the bands I'm ...
