New module day -- U-HE WIRETAP

Whilst I was ordering the attenuator for the Buchla case, I applied my reward points from Perfect Circuit and grabbed a u-he Wiretap CV detector/trigger module. https://photos.app.goo.gl/pJmGpV4bCTPmcGAp7 This will go into the Berlin Chiptune case for use with my drum modules. I was torn between ...

Re: New sequencer incoming - Buchla 245

Ben, how are you getting on with the 257t? It's one of those things that I'm REALLY glad I have it when I need it, but a) it's very use-case specific and b) it's quite a large module. I tend to use attenuverters a lot in my patching so it really depends on your particular use-case as to whether it ...

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

After Friday's try-hard fail, I readdressed the wind skiff and came up with something more robust. I fully intend to use the tongue drum on this one, but perhaps not with the solenoids ... will have to see, that will require a ton of experimentation and I'm not quite there yet. This skiff sounds ...

Re: New sequencer incoming - Buchla 245

Fired up the wind skiff last night after Friday's mixed results and a subsequent re-org. The skiff is now all Buchla or Buchla-inspired, with the exception of adding a disting for the dual quantizer; I'm not ready to raw dawg with Buchla's pitch approximations yet! :D No wind at 10pm indoors, so I ...

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

I got SOOOO CLOSE tonight! https://photos.app.goo.gl/FuspVH4tkTsuynfq8 I'm not convinced that this is a particularly good use for the anemometer; but it was worth a shot. VERY time consuming, VERY tedious, and sometimes VERY frustrating as I slowly overcame each new obstacle to getting sound from ...

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

A little bit of progress on this one: After a bit of a struggle, thanks to a diagram of a light switch, I sorted out the wiring for a Normally Closed relay, and it worked! https://photos.app.goo.gl/9RbWWavqtUpyxLRj6 I had read that the solenoids throw off a lot of heat, but I didn't know they get ...

Re: New sequencer incoming - Buchla 245

That's what I did, got the least expensive quad attentuator I could find from a manufacturer I don't hate. :)

Re: Side Quest: Chiptune University!

Did a little RTFM for the NerdSeq last night and was able to get pulse waves playing from tracks 7 and 8. They normally drone unless stopped, but you can route an envelope to an audio track and use it like a VCA; neat! Going back to the NerdSeq after using LSDJ exclusively for the past couple of ...

Re: Side Quest: Chiptune University!

A month late, but a quick update: I'm still working my way through learning LSDJ when I have time; the next big step is looking at the wave channel, which I've not touched. (In truth, I've been sidetracked trying to finish Pokemon Red!! :D ) Now that my latest project is almost ready to be released ...

Re: New sequencer incoming - Buchla 245

I ordered a Rides The Storm quad attenuator for use with the 245t. When it arrives, I'll be doing a case re-org for the next project. Things are gonna get weird! :D

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

Taking the experimentation a bit further, a few more bits arrived today: two contact mics, a 4-channel trigger-relay, and four solenoid actuators ... oh, and an inexpensive tongue drum!

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

That has real possibilities. A suggestion: Use something like an Arduino to turn the pulses into a MIDI stream. That way you can easily experiment with various synths etc. That sounds like a really cool idea, except I don't have any desire (at least as of yet) to get into the Arduino world, and don ...

Re: New sequencer incoming - Buchla 245

I've been doing a whole bunch of experimenting with the 245t and I'm slowly coming to grips with all of the logic functions you can perform with it -- it's really quite staggering! What I'm working on now is a Wiretap-style bit of logic where I compare two lanes from the 245t; lane A is a pitch ...

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

Despite the heat yesterday, I was able to get the park for a bit with the 12yo and we tested out the wind sensor -- and it worked a treat! https://photos.app.goo.gl/4isigJxa5tjd5DLZ7 I only brought one skiff outside, so the options were limited, but this was more a proof-of-concept test. Re: My quest for Quadraphony -- journal and audio samples

Pirate was a ton of fun but I didn't like the results so I am working on a new promo/tutorial. One thing I've noticed about Pirate is I usually don't walk out with anything that I keep, but I do get a clear idea of what I WANT to do. Nothing like a change of environment to put things into focus!

Working on the mix today -- 45 minutes long in total. Playing it back very simply across 4 browser tabs, it's quite mesmerizing.

Of course, this is just the beginning of my experiments in immersive audio; I want to try my hand at actual 5.1 for the next one!

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

It's an anemometer! 8-) 100%! I got home from work super late tonight, but I couldn't NOT try out the sensor. It works! Especially with the comparator, the pulses are kept under control bc the sensor puts out 20 pulses per revolution. A small blow was all that it took to get pulses going, and they ...

Re: New sequencer incoming - Buchla 245

Just had a GREAT jam with the 245t ... multed one of the lane outputs and ran one copy into the AV2 offset and another copy into the attenuator; multed THOSE outputs into a sequential switch, then out to the quantizer. The pulser output was multed between the EG, 245t, and Branches, which randomly ...
