Re: Standing monitors on their sides

wasn't the NS10 designed as a home Hifi listening monitor - which is why all the studios went for them in such a big way? The story goes that they were designed as hi-fi bookshelf speakers but failed in that market, presumably because of their (over-) analytical sound and fatiguing upper-mid range ...

Re: Melodyne timing vocals

I'm afraid any attempt to correct either pitch or position in Melodyne mechanically is going to run into problems, particularly when working on vocals. The detected 'start point' and central frequency MAY be the ones we hear, but very often they aren't! There's still a place for operator skill (incl...

Carl Orff did it with Carmina Burana, as did Ravel with his Bolero.

Maurice and Carl must be p***ing themselves in the musical Hereafter over how often they are invoked to justify mindless use of a sequencers' looping function!

Re: need critique on this mix-constantly disappointed with mixes now

Did you intend the 'piano' and pad at the beginning to be (sometimes) out of synch? I'm afraid it just sounds sloppy to me. I like the slightly asymmetric rhythm from 0'33". But then you lose me. I'm not hearing much of interest, either musically or sonically. Sorry. Maybe it's just not my style.

Re: Why do we need sound systems?

Early Bono and full-throttle Adele might just make it work in an unamplified concert hall but Billie Eilish and Gentle Folkie Types would start a shooshing war. I refer you back to the original question. I'm not suggesting NO amplification. Just small amplification, for instruments/voices that use ...

Perhaps they thought they could fill the RFH. Did they?

Re: Why do we need sound systems?

In the old days, Wombat was around a lot... now a very occasional visitor, well, poster, anyway. Good to see him back, at his provocative best! The website redesign put me off for a bit  It's about 60 years since I first started playing around with 'sound on sound' recording, using my El...

Re: Isolating Voice

If you are making these with a view to legal action, remember the court will be interested in a recording of what you actually heard, the actual nuisance, not a processed and enhanced version.

Why do we need sound systems?

A solo piano or string quartet can successfully perform unamplified in the Royal Albert Hall. Why can't a small PA system on stage be just as audible?

They're the same notes! In the same order!

If you're a 'non-musical person', why are you bothering your pretty little head over music theory? :-)
