Re: Tim Blake's "Crystal Machine"

Arr,

He says "Im using the Ring Mod as a VCA to get the snappy percussive sound," (A trick I know). A bit like the extra punch to the VCA in the Moog Mother video.

Re: Tim Blake's "Crystal Machine"

Thanks Martin,

I've seen these sorts of videos before, It was the use of a ring mod as stated that got my interest, I'm wondering what's that used for. (I should ask the video maker really shouldn'tI !)

Tim Blake's "Crystal Machine"

Those of you from the 70's might remember Tim Blake (Gong/Hawkwind/ Solo Artist). He had a double EMS VCS3 AKS setup called "Crystal Machine" which he used for a long while. It's been restored and can been seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LsjBe0R-4c The video maker says: "T...

Re: Modular frustrations, wants, needs etc,

Oh dear, my subtle wordplay was obviously too subtle ;) HP? Open source? Well I was pleased with it anyway  Oh dear ! Sorry for the sense of humour failure ! I didn't realise this was such a saucy message board :headbang: Here's the latest project I'm working on, a AS3320 based bandpass filte...

Re: Modular frustrations, wants, needs etc,

Would that need to be an open source design Andy?

I'm not sure what your asking Martin ? Most of my work is on github, but it's not really in a state others can reliably use.

Re: Modular frustrations, wants, needs etc,

As to the cost, it really doesn't add much. I design my own modules (for my own use) and the cost of an additional output is 1/4 opamp and a jack (about 40p). It's a bit more complicated for inputs, but only a few more resistors. It does however add a bit more HP in some cases, which could be a prob...

Re: Modular frustrations, wants, needs etc,

The thing that annoys me the most is a lot of modules only have a single input or output, meaning the needs for mults. Just my twopence but: VFC modules should have more than one audio inputs to mix VCO ins VCOs should have more than one F/oct again to mix control inputs ADSRs should have more than ...

Re: Fully Modular Synthesis info for Beginners?

I think the first question you need to ask is about cases and their size. It will be your first purchase and for something that doesn't make any noise you'll find it quite expensive. You need to ask, do I build this myself or but one ready made? The biggest mistake people starting with Eurorack is b...

Re: Early Pitch to CV ?

I do wonder though if this was a case of time distorting memories and it was in fact an envelope follower used to control the VCS3 filter and then Dave's guitar was fed through the filter for a sort of Auto-Wah. We may never know because those involved are getting on a bit.

Early Pitch to CV ?

Hi All, I recently came across this picture of Del Dettmar of Hawkwind. The picture will have been taken between 1971 to 1974 when Del what in the band: https://alchetron.com/cdn/del-dettmar-a0d17843-2050-45b1-b030-87154190e7a-resize-750.jpeg I was intrigued by the silver box with the switches at th...

Re: Really slow Eurorack random modules?

Ben,

"The LFO rate wouldn't really matter. It would if the s/h trig was slow."

Sorry, that's what I meant, I'm assuming the internal triggers on a S/H wouldn't be slow enough so an external LFO as the trigger.

Re: Really slow Eurorack random modules?

I'm not sure what you mean by:

"I need a slow random voltage module"

Do you mean a module that will change a random output at a very slow rate or something that slews between random voltages at a slow rate? Would noise into a sample and hold being triggered by a very slow LFO?

Help with Ratcheting Sequence and Tangerine Dream

I've been looking into Ratcheting and have had some success with a couple of Korg SQ-1 sequences, a lot of patience, and an overly complex arrangement of a VCO running at 32 times the sequencer rate and two clock dividers. There are a number of "How To" videos out there, for instance: http...
