Re: Switched Neutrik jacks

Wouldn't you know it. After years of trouble-free service this morning my studio lead developed an intermittent fault.

Upon examination it turned out to be a cable break (Van Damme cable). It has now been shortened and re-soldered and all is fine. No problem with the silent jack.

Re: Switched Neutrik jacks

I've got three. A straight jack, on a readymade lead, which I've gigged for the last five years and two leads that I've made up myself. One straight, which is on a short lead for use with a wireless transmitter, and one angled. The angled one gets used pretty much daily in my home studio and must ha...

Re: Gear/cable bag recommendation?

I've started using my son's old cricket kit bag. Strong, spacious and with wheels / pullout handle. Best of all, it was free.

Re: Recommendations for replacement Strat bodies and necks

If you are planning to use NW Guitars it would be worth giving them a call as I'm not sure that their online stocking info is up to date. I seem to remember that the body I came away with wasn't showing as in stock on their website.

Re: Recommendations for replacement Strat bodies and necks

I found myself in a similar position a couple of years ago. I already had a loaded scratch plate and tuners from a US Standard Strat so I bought a body, neck and trem from https://northwestguitars.co.uk/ . As they were only a few miles down the road I was able to go in a look at the stock and, as a ...

Re: Small mixer for sorting my own monitor mix

The Quad Cortex has, I believe, two sets of outputs. 1 / 2 on XLR and 3 / 4 on TRS jack. If it behaves the same way as my Helix then you can route your signal to both sets in parallel, meaning that you already have a built in splitter. I imagine that you are running the Cortex as 2 discreet effects ...

Re: Mm electronics mixer - rare gem or throwaway?

My first mixer was an MM (about 40 years ago), so far too long ago to accurately recall what I sounded like. What I can remember is that I was very happy to move on to something better at the earliest opportunity. Don't fall into the trap that old = some sort of vintage magic. They stopped making th...

Re: Amp head/cab for home recording suggestions - thank you!

I'd prefer a separate unit than using sims inside the computer to combat workflow considerations with latency. I don't know if the other hardware modelling units do this, but one of the big pluses of the Line6 Helix for me is the ability to record both the processed and unprocessed guitar sound sim...

Re: Amp head/cab for home recording suggestions - thank you!

In summary Your primary aim is recording at home on your own. so not live, no in house engineer, no treated rooms (either to enhance the acoustics nor attenuate noise). You don't already own an amp and are unsure as to the exact amplifier that you want (Fender Twin / AC30?). A Kemper would fit the b...

Re: Looking for Wider Neck Electrics

I can't resist. Here is a link to another fine example of luthiery from Mr Mark Phillips aka Cleartone Guitar Conversions. Mr Phillips takes production guitars and widens them to accomodate his 'sausage fingers'. The following is one of his neater jobs, however. Those of a nevous disposition should ...
