Re: Absorbing fan noise from iMac 27

Hey Bob.

Given the circumstances you’ve described (partic what you said about the machine when sat on the kitchen table) I’m wondering whether part of the issue is actually air turbulence caused in the exhaust airflow by the positioning of the machine rather than simple fan noise??

Re: Humble request for some mix feedback please :-)

I really like the dissonance in this track actually Kirsty (although there is for me an overly-edgy ‘out-of-tuneness about the vocal entry - bad place to make an error if that’s not your intention). The overall feel is a tad foggy! That can be a legitimate aim… but it’s not quite clear (on my ipad c...

Re: Recommendations for a great string library?

I only listened to the first one or two examples (links) but I thought they sounded absolutely awful. If I had been playing in a string orchestra that sounded like that i would have walked out. Sounds nothing like a professional string section. Total garbage! Wow!! Are you talking about this produc...

Re: Recommendations for a great string library?

^^^^^^^
The FREE Spitfire ‘Discover’ is an absolute no-brainer imo…… or you can pay your £49 and have it reimbursed when you upgrade….

Re: What size screen do you use? (thinking about acoustics)

Ta bud.

I went one further when I sold my Audient console a year or two back and removed the lot - not even a desk.

Now literally I have nothing in front of me…….. or am I just thinking of being 61……

JOKE….. :-)

Re: Using a Universal Apollo twin as a standalone mic pre?

Thanks Wonks - wasn’t just an attempt to tweak your bunny tail bud…:-) Life means I’m having to set up in two places - and I’m thinking of having my beloved hardware in just one place (to make security and insurance more manageable). I’m toying with the idea of a UAD interface at the ‘non-hardware’ ...

Re: Using a Universal Apollo twin as a standalone mic pre?

The Unison ‘pres’ are just software that’s applied after all the A/D conversion has taken place. So you can just as easily use the software when mixing. So unless you follow a strict ‘record with effects’ protocol, it really is rather a gimmick. 500 series is a great suggestion…. But just wanted to...

Re: Mixing Multiple Backing Vox & Guitars

Hey Ian…. I’ve just listened through your stuff on Bandcamp. Really enjoyable, interesting stuff. You’re clearly a very creative musician. Appreciate you putting this out there. The reason to post is simply to say this… As I listen I’m left with a feeling of lack of confidence. It feels very like so...

Re: Apple M1 chip, yay or ney?

I tried a M1 Mini in the beginning of the year. Digital Performer and Logic with an MOTU 828ES interface. Lots of different plugs. I, too, found that certain plug-ins bogged down the cpu pretty quickly. I’m sure a lot of those have/will be updated fairly quickly. The thing that put me off though wa...
