Re: Sadie is now free
Thank you Hugh. He does use MIDI a lot, triggers samples from his guitar but also has a 61 key 'dumb' keyboard and he has Samplitude, Reaper and the free Cakewalk for that. That however gives him a lot of .wav tracks so I am sure a really good editor will be useful...especially at that price! I have ...

Re: Interface Hell - Tracking Vocals Only
The larger RME interfaces have a pile of line I/O on the back. Are they not a solution? RME interfaces have a pile of line I/O on the back it is true and i love that, just wish they had at least one xlr on back But why? It makes much more sense for them to put the line connections on TRS to save ...

Re: Building a New PC after 15 Years!! Old ESI Juli@ Sound Card ok?
Hate to admit it but it seems that I need to put my ESI Juli@ out to pasture... Sad really. Looks like I will have to buy myself a new card. Looking on the bright side, I do hear high pitched hard disc reading sounds in my speakers when I move my mouse around or other such noise, hopefully with my ...

Re: Sadie is now free
Hugh, silly question so be kind! Will Sadie run with a USB interface?
If so I shall put it on the laptop I propose to get for my son later in the year. He has a MOTU M4. Are there any books?
Dave.

Re: Is my Strat doomed or does yours also...?
Ah, Stainless Steel. Did not think if that Wonks but then there are many grades of SS none of which are as hard as HT steel I am betting? "Thread erosion" seems a good call?
I have a sample box of sheds of hex grub screws but they are all metric.

Re: Is my Strat doomed or does yours also...?
When you say the saddle has "collapsed" I take it you mean the height adjusting threads have stripped? I don't know about other guitars but that has not happened to my son's Mex Strat which must be well over 20 years old. The hex grub screws look like blued high tensile steel so I doubt they are the ...

Re: Power draw of 3 PC's
Hmm, an NE5534 driving a 10k input at +22dBu will push about 1.4mA peak into the load so AFAICT is it not straying out of class A?
If course if people are daft enough to insist on 600 Ohm operation!

Hey this is great! Price is decent too.
Yes, not a bad price IF you already have some mic pres (or a mixer!).
I did think that M6 would have been better with ADAT?

Re: Audio interface Question
Mic inputs come as standard on most budget/mid price interfaces, you may just have to go along with them. Interface questions? there seem to be a lot lately, maybe we should start a seperate sub-forum! :) Yes, like the chap on another thread with his PCI card, this is where PC audio has gone. The ...

Re: Building a New PC after 15 Years!! Old ESI Juli@ Sound Card ok?
the MOTU is a little more than I really need to spend. I really dont need anything that great any more. I think I might just get another ESI card for around €140. Am still loath to spend the money since the Juli@ has nothing wrong with it. Is there any benefit to getting an internal PCIe card over a ...

Re: Building a New PC after 15 Years!! Old ESI Juli@ Sound Card ok?
If the published specifications are anything to go by I agree with you Baldo that the ESI card is excellent, the I/O dynamic range should be around 110dB, top quality indeed. But change is often forced upon us and so a USB interface seems inevitable? Many of us would chose RME if we could but can I ...

Re: Tannoy Gold 5 Monitors
Bit miffed at the term "TV speakers" Tone! A bit of context. Dave. They are too good for the TV, I wouldn’t use anything decent, as I find TV sound awful. "Awful" in what way Arp'? I find the basic quality very good, as I say I listen to a lot of R3 through the setup and it sounds just as good as C ...

Re: Tannoy Gold 5 Monitors
Had an ignoble thought in a shop today (phone related, will tell later in that thread) The guy had a rake of new and used PA gear and it occurred to me that I could spend £99 on a pair of PA speakers and sit the Tannoys on top? Then I would be able to kick some serious A*! Still want better than the ...

Re: UA Galaxy
No, mine wasn't behaving like that. With the input gain all the way up I could only get the compression light just blipping on if I hit the strings on a chord hard. Single notes did nothing. Maybe it is a duff one, or had a wrong value component fitted on the input circuit. Otherwise it behaves as ...

Re: Tannoy Gold 5 Monitors
Bit miffed at the term "TV speakers" Tone! A bit of context? The Tannoys were installed in a small bedroom that son used for his recording. Re: Tannoy Gold 5 Monitors
I have had a pair of Tannoy Reveal 5As for some years now. I am pretty happy with them. They sit on slim CD shelf towers either side of a 50" FSTV. I am often impressed with the bass they deliver. I want to upgrade at some point, something more accurate but also a higher SPL capability. Yes, the 5As ...

Re: Lavalier microphone that can eliminate background noise?
It’s all down to signal to noise ratio; the closer the microphone is to your mouth (signal) the quieter the background (noise) will be. So I would suggest a headphone and microphone set, that will get the microphone close to your mouth without creating plosives and look professional at the same t ...

Re: UA Galaxy
I expect the gain control value is exactly the same as in a real 1176, so around 45dB. But the 1176 has a fixed threshold (well, it varies slightly depending on the compression ratio selected, but fixed for that ratio), so unless the signal can be raised above that threshold, you don't get any ...

Re: UA Galaxy
I'm rather wary of UA pedals since buying their 1176 pedal. Covering both guitar and line input signals, it lacked sufficient gain to make it work with a Telecaster. It needed a range switch to adjust sensitivities. Paul White's SOS review totally failed to mention this shortcoming. Arpy, you'll be ...

Re: Reverse guitar solo live
But then I found the Behringer FCV 100. High* Z input plus modulation. Now ok, Behrrys do not have a good record for guitar accessories! They made (make?) a dreadfully noisy active DI but for £26 worth a shot? *Specc' says " 300k" which seems a bit daft? Better than 50k of course but still daft. ...

Re: Reverse guitar solo live
You surprised me Wonks saying high impedance volume pedals were very expensive but a quick shufti soon showed you to be right. Rare and what there was, e.g. a Boss well over a ton and a half. That's a bit of a rip IMHO since surely, most of the cost is in the case and mechanism? A TL072 and a ...
