Re: Quiet home recording solutions

I have a 12" speaker in an 'isolation cab' with a built in cheapo SM58 clone. It works well but I no longer to use it since I hardly ever record the band and when I do I just 'embrace the spill' :D It's a good solution but doesn't get the OP the experience of feeling as much as hearing the sound ...

Re: Quiet home recording solutions

Another thought, small amps usually have small speakers (the Champ has an 8") and I've never found a guitar speaker smaller than 10" that sounds good to me at any level (TBF I haven tried very hard as I can use my 18 watt, 1 x 12" combo in the studio) and at lower volume small speakers sound even ...

Re: Quiet home recording solutions

Hi Riggillespie, I have been infesting this forum and other similar recording forums for the best part of 20 years and this has to be in the top 5 "Holy Grail" questions! I also spent a huge amount of time with guitarist son trying to make basic (cheap) valve amps sound like Brian May's or Dave ...

Re: Best practice for using interface with two computers?

https://www.ballicom.co.uk/162005-manhattan-usb-a-automatic-sharing-switch-.p1447453.html I used something very similar, silver not black, to the above some years ago to switch a Cubase dongle between two tower computers, worked fine. I see no reason why it would not work for an interface? I ...

Re: Building a music production PC that will last 10 years

Couple of things rang bells? Dust: this cannot be good for your health especially if it contains such things as silica. Might I suggest seeking some measures to keep it out of the premises? Filters: good idea but ONLY if you change/clean them regularly! EMI: why such a problem? If mains borne you ...

Re: Monitors £500 absolute max, a tad less even better

If you’re open to 2nd hand, the old KrK S2 or VXT are found for [much] less than 500. I’ve got a pair of 8” at the recording room currently, and I used to mix at home with a pair of 6”. They would still be here if they wouldn’t be as prone to RF interferences (I live close to mobile antennas) RFI pr ...

Re: Most accurate monitors under £700

But: A) having the right tools and a good workshop will make it sooooo much easier to work on the 20-year old Micra. And B) they will also allow you to do a good job on something newer and more valuable in due course. I really don't think this is a very good analogy, but then my degree is in ...

Ajay, you have expressed my ideas perfectly. I am in that happy place where I need seek no one's opinion as to what I buy, nor if I go into a bit of debt for a time. Are these really markedly better than for example Adam t7v for a small home studio? If you mean the KH150s Michael then yes, I would say so. I would be forever worried about that Adam tweeter even though I won't hear its contribution! There is a good chance that my financial position will be ...

Re: Win 11 taskbar

I have to say that the site is back to normal speed today so maybe that router reset did something? OneWorld, yes passwords are a pain but I find the list "apps menu" under 3 lines top right very useful. But phone numbers? I struggle these days to type them in accurately. Ancient minces. Dave.

Re: PC not starting up ?

"I have yet to find a reliable source of large reinforced rubber washers, though." Well, what you get up to in private Shuffs is your business! Re: Microphone stand suggestions?

To me the mic stand falls neatly into two camps? Those that will stay "at home" for private use and can thus be pretty cheap "Pulse" or "Zon" types that you will handle carefully. A pro studio needs to look good and so more expensive stands can be justified. They will also be able to handle heavier ...

Re: Church PA Operation

When I was a chorister none of this was deemed necessary, and IMO it's an extension of a trend that I disliked very much at the time, happy-clappy guitars and doing away with the High Altar, it's been down hill ever since, also, the extra money the church needs to buy all this stuff, it's all extra ...

My A&H MixWiz is currently in a rack case sitting vertical, this is always a dilemma, it has advantages and disadvantages, advantages are that I can clearly see the EQ and AUX sections, without having to get up and look down on it like if it's horizontal on the desk, disadvantages are that its very ...
