Re: Pedal into Hi-Z question.
The makers of them boast of a "musical discrete FET input" which is "distortion" in engineering terms! I think the 4K button switches the 'SSL Attitude' in and out as required. I don't know whether it works on the instrument inputs though as they seem to bypass any other processing. Won't really ...

Re: Pedal into Hi-Z question.
Thanks guys, I figured it would probably be okay because people use pedals directly before the instrument input into a guitar amp. But now I feel reassured I won't cause any damage by trying it. I'll start with the pod go volume fairly low and see how it sounds.

Pedal into Hi-Z question.
I've just purchased & set up the SSL 2+ Mark II which has 2 Neutrik XLR Combo sockets for Mic/Line inputs mounted on the rear. Purely for convenience is it okay to plug the line outs from my Pod Go into the Hi-Z instrument sockets on the front just for monitoring when practicing (not when recording ...

Re: Planning to buy a record player
IIRC the seventies were more about music centres than radiograms. They had a record deck, tuner and cassette player integrated with separate stereo speakers. I had a Bush music centre with a Garrard record deck built in which is possibly why my records still sound okay. The eighties were all about ...

Re: Planning to buy a record player
New vinyl is too expensive to ruin on a cheap record deck. If you do decide to go for separates be sure either the amp has a phono input or the record deck has a built in pre-amp. Many modern amps won't accommodate a record deck without a separate pre-amp. Even secondhand it probably won't be cheap ...

Re: mid/side mic question
Mike - the long lead shouldn't make any difference - it is very common to use 30m or longer cables on mics via multicores in a live situation or in a large studio. I'm not sure which mic preamps are used on the R8 but if it is the same design as the H series recorders then you'll probably find the ...

Re: mid/side mic question
Yeah but you weren't hot plugging a budget ribbon into a Behringer mixer  ... Either way I considered the Fethead would be a useful addition to the toolbox and I've been thinking about buying one anyway... My R144 arrived from Andetons over the weekend. I've not recorded anything yet but just ...

Re: Moth
I'm not sure what you mean by 'heavily processed'. The Gilmour guitar's just guitar>tube amp. Maybe you mean the left/right distortion guitars that crash in on the first note of some bars? Sorry, heavily distorted perhaps. If I close my eyes it goes from mellow jazzy lounge to Pink Floyd rock with ...

Re: Neumann KH120 Error Code ID?
Rep of Ireland I'm afraid! A friend may have found the issue (short between two pins of a pair of IC's). Doing my best to avoid sending them to one of Neumanns repair centres as the designated one for Ireland is in the UK, which means import tax and export etc. Thanks for your replies. I'm not sure ...

Re: Which budget semi hollow whould you go for?
Probably the guitar I most regret parting with was my Aria TA-50 in Wine Red. An Aria TA-50 sold 165 in October auction site. Wish I'd know I'd have put a bid in upto 200. I had a Harley Benton HB35 semi hollow. Picked it up from cash converters of all places under a ton. Pretty alright. https ...

Re: Aria TA guitars
IME pickups make the single biggest difference between one electric guitar and another and tend to overshadow the other differences. But some people can hear these differences and consider them sufficient to lead them to certain guitar/pickup combinations. I tend to agree regarding pickups making ...

Re: Aria TA guitars
Thanks for your reply. The link you posted is really interesting for a couple of reasons - it identifies which models have which finishes - should help navigate the murky waters of internet searches, why do serial numbers not follow a logical pattern? The list of artists on the site endorsing Aria ...

Re: Aria TA guitars
This looks to be an interesting link http://www.matsumoku.org/cm_models/2024/11/26/1984-september-price-list/ though I've not fully explored it yet. I also think there were different versions of each TA over the years & the numbering wasn't entirely consistent. I think all the TA series were double ...

Re: Which budget semi hollow whould you go for?
Probably the guitar I most regret parting with was my Aria TA-50 in Wine Red. It wasn't particularly expensive new & they don't sell for big money secondhand. I currently have a limited edition Duesenberg Alliance Series which I'll never part with for sentimental reasons, but in terms of tonality ...

Re: A visit to Auden Guitars
They are awaiting (well over a year's wait so far) a power supply upgrade before they can finish commissioning all the new CNC machinery they have, which will allow them to produce a much larger number of guitars than at present. These will be mainly for the Japanese and US markets. Auden acoustics ...

Re: Speaker Isolation Feet/Stands
I bought the IsoAcoustics speaker stands shortly after they were reviewed in SOS and been very pleased with them. Re: What are the frequency zones in 2 band car EQ's?
The thought did cross my mind... I started driving in the '70s when the motor car was being touted as the ideal environment to listen to 'HiFi' because all the occupants sat in a fixed position. They didn't seem to understand that that meant they were all sitting in the wrong position :headbang: My ...

It's basically the same as heated seats.
I can testify that Meridian Digital Dither Shaping does nothing to reduce the wordlength of my wife. I do like heated seats though.

Re: What are the frequency zones in 2 band car EQ's?
My car uses dithering to make the music sound better than when it was recorded. It must be true because it says so in the manual and they even made a video to explain how. I'd link to it but I'm frightened Hugh might self-implode. You mean it makes you indecisive at junctions when listening ...
