Re: Amplitude Matching
To ensure my DAW was not getting any spurious inputs, I rebooted and then looked at the waveforms of the reference track and the Master Bus. And they were the same in frequency and amplitude! :) So I don't know how or why I got such a difference in amplitude measurements; they must have been some in...

Re: Amplitude Matching
That level difference won’t happen unless you’ve got something applying some gain somewhere. By default, if you have just one channel creating audio, the master track level will be the same as the channel level. Hi Richard, thanks for replying but all my other tracks are muted, won't that negate wh...

Re: Amplitude Matching
Thanks to everyone who has responded. For sure the downloaded reference track is compressed; all the major sound hosting media sites to my knowledge such as SoundCloud or BeatPort always compress their offerings. They may also do some EQ as well but in this instance, I know what EQ was applied to th...

Amplitude Matching
I am trying to match the sound and amplitude of a kick within a downloaded MP3 file reference track with a library sample kick but I can’t get anywhere near the measured amplitude of the reference track. I’m using Ableton Live as my DAW and Voxengo SPAN to measure my amplitude and frequency waveform...

Re: New Audio PC - best practices?
Thanks for all your replies, really helpful and giving me a lot of food for thought. I like the NAS suggestion, Trevor, I was already checking a NAS to hang on my network to store my music library. Some more homework for me to do there but I like that idea. Luke, my new machine that I'm setting up i...

New Audio PC - best practices?
Today I took delivery of a bright shiny (okay, matt black!) Audio PC courtesy of SCAN 3XS for my music studio and now I have some decisions to make in terms of backup and storage so I was wanting some opinions and advice from this forum to help me decide what to do. Firstly, I already have all my sa...

Re: ASUS Z490 or ASUS X299 MoBo?
Thanks for all your replies and additional info. I spoke and emailed with SCAN yesterday and they suggested the updated Z590-A MoBo and I'm just waiting for their recommendation on CPU before pressing ahead with the order. I think the most important thing is being able to get back to making music as...

Re: ASUS Z490 or ASUS X299 MoBo?
I’ve logged a call with them as they aren’t taking online chat for 3xs machines at present. SCAN built another audio machine back for me in 2016 using an ASUS x99 machine which has worked impeccably so I’m aware of how good these guys are. Plus Peter Kaye who posts here and works for them was a grea...

ASUS Z490 or ASUS X299 MoBo?
Am getting super stressed over which mobo to go for on a new audio pc so looking for some words of wisdom from the collective smart members of this forum. I primarily use the pc for producing EDM music tracks plus some live recording work so it’s really important that it can handle the most amount o...

Studio Cabling
This has probably been asked many times before but I couldn't find the answer I was specifically looking for. I am wiring a small self contained studio for myself and want to use a wall plate with 4 XLR Mic inputs and 4 Headphone outputs. The mics will be a mix of condenser with phantom power and dy...

Re: Yet another reason to stay out the box
Actually, I think that the OP has made a valid point generally that also irritates me. After creating an account with a user name, password, you then have to many times download an installer which often times usually needs periodically updating (usually when the OS has been updated) and then you get...

Re: Clearsorber Panels - Hugh Robjohn's Home Studio
Thanks Hugh, much appreciated. I have been in contact with the suppliers but they tell me that due to Brexit and C19, getting supplies of the product from France are problematic at the moment so its something that I'll keep an eye on in the coming months. I am however going with the Camira Lucia cov...

Clearsorber Panels - Hugh Robjohn's Home Studio
I read the June 2020 article on the treatment of Hugh's home work studio with a great deal of interest and in particular, that he used Clearsorber panels to treat his windows with. As I am nearing completion of my home studio build, I have a set of double glazed door 's and small side windows to tre...

Re: Network Card causing Noise in my DAW Monitors
Hi Hugh, many thanks for your reply. I plugged my sub into a different extension lead as you suggested from the other gear but still no joy. However, I unplugged the audio leads to and from the soundcard/sub/monitors, cleaned them with electronic contact cleaner (NOT WD40!)....and it solved the prob...

Network Card causing Noise in my DAW Monitors
I have an i7 920 PC with a Gigabyte MoBo running Win 10 which has an embedded PCIe Gbe Family Controller with the latest Drivers. My Soundcard interface is a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 Mk1. The problem I am experiencing is that there is constant crackling coming from my monitors which increases in inte...

Re: USB Audio Interface?
Interesting. It's a shame the industry doesn't publish standardised latency DAW Bench type data so buyers can check this out. Anything more than 6mSec is bad for me. The more I read the more I think I'll stick with my Delta 66 + omni. Also a quote from Mike Rivers "But the main practical advant...

Re: USB Audio Interface?
Goddard, you make some good points in your post and yes I do use FW on my MoBo - to connect a 1Tb ICE Box HDD. Nothing else I have uses FW. And I have gone over now to Win7 64 bit OS so need to update my sig. I have never used my s/pdif interface nor on my OMNI either. What would that do for me in t...

Re: USB Audio Interface?
There's also the Tascam US-600, which is similair only with front facing inputs. I've heard good things about the Roland UA-55 Quad-Capture which is also well within budget. At the top end of £400 and a bit more is the Motu Track 16, which had a breakout cable or IO box that you can position where ...
