Probably not much comfort but Console (v1.2.2.534) is loading and running rock solid on my Mac Studio here. I've never known Console to crash in quite a few years of usage.

Re: Thunderbolt or USB-C interface?
Thunderbolt is a separate protocol but, I believe, Thunderbolt ports are also USB compatible (I can certainly plug my USB QWERTY keyboard into a TB port on my Mac Pro using a simple adapter). Absolutely. Any TB port using a USB C socket is also fully a USB port. It's a fine simplification. I love ...

Re: TB/USB-C adapters/dock etc for new Mac M4?
AS I recall Thunderbolt originated as a daisy-chain protocol, which means that you could connect a number of devices to one port but they had to be in a daisy chain, one device to the next. Hence hubs proliferated, each with 2 TB ports on as well as the other stuff, one to the computer or previous ...

Re: What’s your Mac traveling rig?
Check out Startech cables. Most of my Tbolt cables are from them. They're as good quality as Apple's, come in a bigger range of lengths and are a little cheaper. Admittedly Tbolt cables are active and have some electronics in them but I can't believe there isn't a certain amount of gouging going on ...

Re: What’s your Mac traveling rig?
Thunderbolt is downwards compatible, so for instance something that specifies a T5 port will normally run at T4 speeds if plugged into a T4 port or uses a T4 cable. I mistyped about my Macbook Air. I said it has 2 USB 3 ports, actually they're T3/USB 4 ports, there's also a magsafe port for charging ...

Re: What’s your Mac traveling rig?
Don't forget the Macbook Air, that can be pretty beefy nowadays and they're usually a bit cheaper than corresponding Pros. I'm typing this on an Air with an M3 processor, 24 GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, 2 USB ports and a headphone socket that cost me about 1200 quid on Apple Refurb.

Re: Firewire interface with M4 Mac Mini?
Interesting. That was the chain of adapters I was suggesting but I was rather pessimistic that it would work. Nice to know it would.

Re: Firewire interface with M4 Mac Mini?
Apple used to make a Thunderbolt 2 to Firewire adapter that you might be able to find second hand and that in conjunction with an Apple Thunderbolt 2 to 3 adapter would in theory make the connection but including suitable Thunderbolt cables would make the whole chain pretty expensive, the wrong side ...

That's interesting, Bob, thank you. A few of those (e.g. undo, zoom in and out) I have as buttons on my MCU but I can see the use of the others. Splendid!

Re: 2 button mouse
I should add that the MX Master 3S has quite a collection of wheels and buttons scattered over its surface which can be customised both for normal use and specifically by application.
Out of curiosity, Bob, what Logic keypesses etc did you put on the mouse?

I use the Logitech MX Master 3S and have it set up to perform multiple tasks in Logic using key commands and the Logitech app and I find it a real timesaver. I got one of those mice just yesterday so still getting used to it. Not cheap but very well made, I've customised it for normal use and will ...

Re: Viewing monitors connected to a Mac Studio before purchace.
LG's Tbolt monitors look like good value and in my experience are well made. I've got an LG 27MB85Z Tbolt 2 monitor (don't these names just trip off the tongue) which is the same physical size, though half the resolution, of the Studio display, both running off the same Studio Mac. Although the ...

Re: Need help with really strange noise on vocal recording.
+1 to all of that. Once I saw a singing teacher for a series of sessions. I asked if she minded me recording them and she didn't. I later edited the recordings into a file that I play from time to time as a set of exercises to keep my voice in trim.

Re: USB recorder?
And of course the most (if not all?) Zoom handy recorders can be switched into an USB device easily. That's how I use my H4n pro. Record stuff (onto the built-in SD card), connect via USB to computer, transfer WAV files. This (and not just Zoom of course, Tascam and Olympus devices all work this ...

Re: Is the Mac mini M4 silent?
Looks like it, but as I type this on my M3 Macbook Air (24 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD) I'm not noticing any slow down :) I bought this to do the usual email/web/word processing stuff, for which it's well over-powered, but also to step into the breach on a temporary basis if either of our main computers threw ...

Re: Is the Mac mini M4 silent?
Macworld has this to say about the fanless M3 Air: One of the major differences between the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro is that the Air lacks cooling fans. That means the Air will slow down its performance if the task at hand causes the computer to generate excessive heat. That’s always been the ...

Possibly. As a UI it works quite well so why change it? There are regular updates under the bonnet, though. Digitising LPs works for me, not for you. Such is life.
