Re: New Random Beats Track/Video

Out of curiousity, how tricky was it to get your head around Resolve? I've been thinking about shifting from Shotcut. Hard to say as I used a luddite approach, I treated the video as a multitrack like audio and used programmed opacity changes to move between different mixtures of layers. There's ...

Re: New Random Beats Track/Video

Thanks gents, we did the audio about a year ago and then prevaricated. We felt like the song deserved a video, but couldn't blag any help with one. As I was shed building a few weeks ago I realised it might make an OK backdrop and improvised for an hour with a couple of cheap par cans and a singer ...

New Random Beats Track/Video

A new track from us with a more expansive sound and a $0 video production. Despite the lack of budget I think we made it like we could have spent maybe a tenner? https://l.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutu.be%2FA9Ad2g_dpa0%3Ffbclid ...

Curious, the AI response in Chrome seemed to reconcile well to the wikipedia entry. C weighting tomorrow then.

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)

With the door fitted I started a couple of quick tests on sound leakage. If this was the end result I'd be disappointed, but it's only the outer shell with rockwool and has two open 100mm vents high up in the walls. (I'm using a cheap sound meter A weighted on slow response, if this is wrong please ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)

Having recovered from the necessary lie-down induced by Martin's pun I can report that the insulation, vapour barrier and first layer of floor are in. The door will arrive on Tuesday. Once the door and acoustic ducting are fitted I can collect my first data point around attenuation of the outer ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)

It might be worth recording a few impulses while it is empty - even just the decay from a handclap. I did that with my build and I tried using the impulses a few weeks ago - it was interesting, although they needed a fair bit of eq to be really usable. You read my mind there sir! I had no idea what ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)

Looking very promising! Thanks, sometimes I think it's mainly promising to kill me, but we progress. One thing that has surprised me today is the extent to which the reverb quality of the shell has changed now the very smooth self levelling concrete is down over the rough slab and the ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)

Thanks for the comments. Having given it some thought, I am going to defer a second door for now. If it proves necessary I can always put a small porch on the front or a slim internal door. Progress feels slow as I have limited time in the evenings and don't want to be a total noise nuisance, but ...

Re: Songwriting - finishing your songs - a blog series

A friend of mine described it as Anglicana - which works as a joke but not really as a genre description unfortunately. I've been listening to (and greatly enjoying) "Songs from the Distant Borders" a fair bit the last couple of weeks. Not good at genres, but FWIW I'd describe you as "Contemporary ...

Re: Going loud and clean - Hotrod deluxe?

First loud rehearsal tonight with the HotRod. It's a winner, for me at least. Bags of punch and clarity on the clean channel. Drive channel just sounds weak in comparison. Dirt pedals work really well etc, seems the internet wisdom is spot on. Even playing loud the jhs attenuator is very useful in ...

Re: Power Supply Overheat Problem

Are you perhaps confusing operating and device internal temperature? The 0-40 is the ambient temperature of the environment you can use the device in. The implication is that you can gig in a 40 degree room and it will not overheat, but the internals and case can and will be hotter. Having said that ...

Re: Going loud and clean - Hotrod deluxe?

If you're going to use the Helix as a frontend why not get an FRFR powered cab? I have a Fender FR12 which I drive from a Boss VG800. Regards, Simon. That is a most excellent question, for which I only have mediocre answers: I want the instant tweakability of the knobs on the amp, I struggle to ...

Going loud and clean - Hotrod deluxe?

As the band I'm in is transitioning to louder electric outings I find I need something with more oomph. I have an HK Tubemeister18, which is lovely but doesn't have the clean volume. I'm looking for clean headroom and expecting to use the Helix as a front end pedal board. So the Hotrod looks like a ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)

I now have a roof! Needs a few more screws and some smoothing before the weatherproof layer goes on, but it's a roof. You can see by the light coming in at the top of the walls I have more to do in the inside. I'm planning to put in some 50mm battens on each side of the rafters and then a further ...
