Re: Going loud and clean - Hotrod deluxe?
First loud rehearsal tonight with the HotRod. It's a winner, for me at least. Bags of punch and clarity on the clean channel. Drive channel just sounds weak in comparison. Dirt pedals work really well etc, seems the internet wisdom is spot on. Even playing loud the jhs attenuator is very useful in ...

Re: Power Supply Overheat Problem
Are you perhaps confusing operating and device internal temperature? The 0-40 is the ambient temperature of the environment you can use the device in. The implication is that you can gig in a 40 degree room and it will not overheat, but the internals and case can and will be hotter. Having said that ...

Re: Going loud and clean - Hotrod deluxe?
If you're going to use the Helix as a frontend why not get an FRFR powered cab? I have a Fender FR12 which I drive from a Boss VG800. Regards, Simon. That is a most excellent question, for which I only have mediocre answers: I want the instant tweakability of the knobs on the amp, I struggle to ...

Going loud and clean - Hotrod deluxe?
As the band I'm in is transitioning to louder electric outings I find I need something with more oomph. I have an HK Tubemeister18, which is lovely but doesn't have the clean volume. I'm looking for clean headroom and expecting to use the Helix as a front end pedal board. So the Hotrod looks like a ...

Re: DIY Elekton Formant Synthesizer
This is bitter sweet for me as I started down the road of building one, but my fickle youth didn't bring it to completion. I still have the book of the articles and a vague desire for one though.

Re: Video: First gig back after my brother was taken seriously ill last year
Beautiful song and performance, I love it.
Even without the backstory, it's a wonderful track, and the video is very nice.
Thank you for sharing that, somehow it touched me deeply, although I have no idea what it's about.

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
I now have a roof! Needs a few more screws and some smoothing before the weatherproof layer goes on, but it's a roof. You can see by the light coming in at the top of the walls I have more to do in the inside. I'm planning to put in some 50mm battens on each side of the rafters and then a further ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
Well the road is getting hard now. All the optimism is evaporated and the reality has arrived. Roofing is taking a long time and there is so much more to do after that. All exterior panels are 18mm OSB3, so nice and heavy, until you have to move them, then the nice is no longer evident. I also ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
Still at it, but returning to work slows things. All the roof timbers are cut and assembled, now to be fitted to the shell. I have a new-found admiration for the simplicity of flat roofs, and the wisdom of those who choose them. 1600+ nails in the roof, ouch. But, with the first couple in place ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
One thing I would suggest is to have an entrance porch. Lay an additional small slab for it Thanks, that's a really interesting suggestion. I really don't want to build out further then the current front, but I do want an intermediate zone. I'm thinking I may go with an 'interior porch' just deep ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
Appreciate this will get more interesting when we get past carpentry, but another picture for now to prove I'm not dead. Walls went up today, squared and fitted to the base, all the noggins cut and a few fitted. Hoping tomorrow will see a lot of wall cladding done. I'm thinking again about the roof ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
Some weekend progress, a lot of long timber is now shorter, and four walls made. I also recalculated and realise I will be nearer £10k for the full build. Probably more if I don't get a move on. Let's try a picture . . . https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/jssj6tcsj95epozk4jlbu/Walls.jpg?rlkey= ...

Re: Yet another mic comparison!
To my sad old ears they are similar.
A seems a bit bright, a sort of micro transient spikyness?
B is nicest to me, seemed to bring out a bit more of the snare detail?
C maybe a bit too soft?
The only guess I'd hazard is B being a D19, but that's a wild guess.

Re: Removing guitar squeak in recordings
After minmising at source maybe a modest investment in a multiband comp like Tone Boosters MBC ($40) would be worthwhile?
I've found it very quick and effective for a lot of problem sounds, including squeaks. To be fair it reduces rather than eliminates squeaks, but I've found it satisfactory.

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
I am progressing, but slowly, and no pics yet. Materials for frame and OSB cladding are here and I expect to break out the circular saw very soon. Cost wise I'm heading for about £8k for the room and then another £1k for treatment. I'm also still mithering on internal construction. My local b ...

Indeed it has.

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
My thoughts are that I wouldn't bother with extra layer of OSB in the inside of the 4 x 2 - just go for the thickest you can afford for the outside layer. It may be counter intuitive, but layers of board that are too close together can reduce the soundproofing rather than improve it. A wider air ...

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
The comments on sound proofing have lead me to think harder on that topic, thanks to all for that nudge. I'm thinking of abandoning the idea of PIR insulation and going to rockwool instead, it's cheaper and has better sound deadening properties. I'm also thinking to use a thicker external osb and ...
