Re: Please recommend book for how to make an Archtop guitar

Yep the Benedetto book is the best. I have a couple of others on archtop construction, they don't come close.

Re: Amplifying a classical guitar

There is no one magic box solution for all use cases, what sort of gig is envisaged? If we are talking playing in a pub or busking, maybe with adjacent singing then I'd take a really good look at the Godin range. They are well made, robust, very very feedback resistant and sound decent. A very good ...

Re: Next Video Cam

I use a go pro quite a lot, it seems OK quality and the sound is surprisingly good. Quite a nice wide angle and small form factor. It's better than most phones. Having said that, it's not as good as a real camera IMHO. You can see a sample here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seSmSVk62KA The go pro...

Re: Modular Frustrations

Swings and roundabouts dude. Without the wonder of modular you never would have got that sound in the first place. I do know what you mean though, many times I have really wanted to take a patch and keep it forever by putting the modules to one side. Would end up with a lot of modules/bankruptcy tha...

Re: One Synth Challenge 2023

It seems almost rude not to buy a new synth for a special occasion such as this !

Re: New Studio from scratch

Warning, it's a loooooong thread with a lot of bad jokes along the way! :D Thanks, read with great interest. It was fairly reassuring in that the reduction seemed pretty good at first (birds and neighbour noises being my main concern) I think the biggest scare is the settling and potential loss of ...

Re: New Studio from scratch

It's a single skin building and that brings a number of compromises . . . The other related issue is that a year of constant vibrations have caused different parts of the ground underneath to settle by different amounts meaning that the door doesn't fit properly now and the structure is no longer a...

Re: Sparse Ballad - Feedback / Advice please

I think that the vocal is a little too indistinct. It varies depending which monitors I listen on. On a fairly bright pair it's just about OK, on more a 'regular' monitor it's just not quite distinguishable enough.

Re: Les Paul Studios

I have no idea what's going on with Thomann at the moment. All suggestions I'm getting from them is top of the line studio grade stuff - like SSL, Allen & Heath, Herchild, Neuman. Stuff like that! Even those posh valve mastering compressors who's name I can't remember. They haven't tried ...

Re: Les Paul Studios

I've had a couple of studios, but they didn't become keepers. (I do still have one of the first batch of 50's tributes, which is a keeper with P90s) The others were almost right, but not quite there. For LP style stuff at the moment I have a Sire L7 which is a very respectable guitar for the price a...

Re: Moog?

Yes very true, the products will continue, the brand will continue, and they will be well made. But the romantic aspect of Moog as an American enterprise is probably over.
