Re: Vintage Mixer Setup (Unbalanced Outputs Question)

Another vote for ART DTI box. Very useful bit of kit and built like a tank. For passive, I've been using Orchid electronics transformers. They do the job! https://orchid-electronics.co.uk/Single_Isolator.htm

Re: Audio interface Question

Yes, not a bad price IF you already have some mic pres (or a mixer!).

I did think that M6 would have been better with ADAT?

It's great if you have a line only setup and happy mixing ITB!

Re: Is there a way to objectively measure dither afterwards?

If you have dithered and non-dithered files of your audio, you can always sum and difference them. That should leave you with the dither to inspect. A bit meter will show you what's going on at that point but it's so negligible at those levels. I remember the Rosetta 24-Bit/16-Bit switch ...

Re: Specific Early 80s Synthesizer Sound Design ? (Central Line "Walking Into Sunshine")

The Central Line release date fits with Jupiter 8 but the timeline is a bit close being the same year for both. My money's on a Prophet 5 which, according to the internet, Larry used on Taanya Gardner's Heartbeat remix, also released in 81. https://www.matrixsynth.com/2011/12/sequential-circuits ...

Re: AI generated album art

Here's something I learned about myself today. With the advances in music generating #AI, I have discovered that if someone uses AI in their cover art, I immediately question whether they've also used it to generate their music. I know that's not really fair, but that is my immediate reaction. Does ...

Another vote for Midjourney. Easy to use and you quickly get drawn into prompt design. It's very fun and the results are only as good as your prompts. There are plenty of example prompts and the results they yield so have a look at some of those and work out what you want from it. It's very much ...

Re: Editing and Digital Clicks

Used to be done on tape at 30ips and replaying at 1-7/8s — the analogue equivalent of recording at 764kHz and replaying g at 48kHz.... although the upper frequency limit is still defined by the mic rather than the medium. some ultrasonic bat recorders need to sample that fast. I don't have experience with these (or bat recording tbf!) so can't say how well they perform.

This one offers rates of 192kHz, 256kHz, 384kHz, 500kHz

Don't mix as much as much as master these days but in both cases if the label hires me then I'll deal with them as they're the ones paying. If they CC the artist in the email, I'll make sure to continue to copy them in to any further correspondence. IME, the label gives final say to the artist but ...
