Re: Distorted telephone conversation
Here's the deal - HR person calls someone accused of doing naughty things. The HR person is using headphones. She recorded the conversation on a small Zoom recorder gizmo - but she screwed up and failed to record the other side! Just to mention that legally, she'll need consent to share/use that ...

Re: Any PCM91 users here?
My understanding is that he's feeding it from an Aux send on his A&H mixer which has impedance balanced outputs as standard. I love that Hugh knows Tony has a MixWizard from previous posts. :bouncy: Great you got it working. It's definitely a flavour to add to your palette. This thread has reminded ...

Re: Any PCM91 users here?
we’ve come a long way since the 91 came out. Pedals these days are incredible, I have a UAD Golden, which is superb, something that really does sound like a classic Lexicon, without all the unreliability of my old 224, I loved that thing, but reliability was terrible. The sound of the 91 is miles a ...

Re: Any PCM91 users here?
The SSL has no Midi, so that really is a deal breaker. Do you mean the SSL 18? It does have MIDI, albeit on a breakout. Thank you so much for pointing that out, I just looked for Midi sockets! OK, it's back on the list, I like the idea of having something in my studio that has SSL written on it, it ...

Re: How to anonymously release music in the UK
Setting up a company in the UK won’t help. All the significant company details, including names of officers, and registered addresses, are publicly available on the internet. Isn't that what I said? If you choose an artist name that is not your own, no-one on any streaming service will get to see y ...

Re: How to anonymously release music in the UK
You could set up an LLC and then open a business account for payments but assuming you'll be appointing yourself director, your name will still show up on the companies house register. I think PPL membership costs a lot more as a company also but it's been a while.

Re: Removing guitar squeak in recordings
As James mentioned, Reaper spectrum would be useful for this, but it is very clunky. I use Wavelab spectrum editor for this kind of thing and go in manually on trouble spots. It does works very well. (I too, am not the best guitar player!). Also mentioned is technique and strings but sometimes you ...

Re: Vintage Mixer Setup (Unbalanced Outputs Question)
Another vote for ART DTI box. Very useful bit of kit and built like a tank. For passive, I've been using Orchid electronics transformers. They do the job! https://orchid-electronics.co.uk/Single_Isolator.htm

Re: Audio interface Question
Yes, not a bad price IF you already have some mic pres (or a mixer!).
I did think that M6 would have been better with ADAT?
It's great if you have a line only setup and happy mixing ITB!

Re: Is there a way to objectively measure dither afterwards?
If you have dithered and non-dithered files of your audio, you can always sum and difference them. That should leave you with the dither to inspect. A bit meter will show you what's going on at that point but it's so negligible at those levels. I remember the Rosetta 24-Bit/16-Bit switch ...

Re: Specific Early 80s Synthesizer Sound Design ? (Central Line "Walking Into Sunshine")
The Central Line release date fits with Jupiter 8 but the timeline is a bit close being the same year for both. My money's on a Prophet 5 which, according to the internet, Larry used on Taanya Gardner's Heartbeat remix, also released in 81. https://www.matrixsynth.com/2011/12/sequential-circuits ...

Re: AI generated album art
Here's something I learned about myself today. With the advances in music generating #AI, I have discovered that if someone uses AI in their cover art, I immediately question whether they've also used it to generate their music. I know that's not really fair, but that is my immediate reaction. Does ...

Re: AI generated album art
Another vote for Midjourney. Easy to use and you quickly get drawn into prompt design. It's very fun and the results are only as good as your prompts. There are plenty of example prompts and the results they yield so have a look at some of those and work out what you want from it. It's very much ...

Re: Editing and Digital Clicks
I remember the first time when I noticed my old Wavelab 4 would not always allow me to edit at a certain precise point. From memory it seemed to move the waveforms slightly until it found matching amplitudes, which became the new splice point. Would this have been so or was something else going on ...
