It is possible to modify the controller and synthesiser units to use a regular centronics socket/cabling - I think there are sensible headers on the boards so it can be done relatively easily.
I think that's on Wayne's site too.

Re: Who has used Reverb — the marketplace?
I've sold a few things on there - my old Roland VG99, it's stand, a pair of Marshall cabs - been pretty positive really. Certainly no better/worse than eBay at the end of the day, noting that Reverb is a reverse auction/bargaining format and eBay is more traditional in that regard.

Re: Scalloped fretboards. - uurgghhh
I thought the point about scalloped fretboards was that it encouraged a really light touch, commensurate with playing fast. Happy to be corrected …
Never played one - I have a death grip on a guitar neck so I can see attempting one ending in tears!

Re: GK-Serial Internal Kits incoming
There are going to be some relative bargains to be had as people get to the point of jumping to GK-S and sell off their old gear. I already have one of those GK-ADs on my board for my GM-800. Works very nicely. Lots of people over at VGuitarForums think Boss should have released a single, switchable...

Re: GK-Serial Internal Kits incoming
I noticed!!! You did cover off a number of practical blockers for wireless GK-S.
Theoretically, how many mb/s is 8 (7 string guitar + regular pickup audio) streams of audio at 24bit/48k?

Re: GK-Serial Internal Kits incoming
There's speculation that Fishman have a bunch of obstructive patents around bluetooth midi guitar. I can't imagine that they would ultimately get in the way of Boss if they were willing to challenge the patents, but it would be expensive. (ed. Bluetooth 5 has 2Mb/s bandwith, so its not going to do G...

Re: GK-Serial Internal Kits incoming
‘Why has Boss released GK serial’ is an interesting question … There is an influential school of thought that believes Roland’s biggest enemy with the VG guitar tech was the ‘midi’ cable. Yes we all know that MIDI is a digital set of instructions and does not transmit audio, and MIDI cables have 5 p...

GK-Serial Internal Kits incoming
https://www.boss.info/global/promos/serial_gk_solutions/ We get different internal kits for 6 and 7 string guitars, and one kit that covers 4, 5 and 6 string bass. Plus some specialist Japanese builders have announced factory fitted GK Serial guitars. Sweetwater are advertising these at $400 (ouch!)...

Re: MIDI Expression CC11 - a lesson for instrument designers
I suppose that might explain - in the day, although I had a D550, my U110 and Matrix 6 needed outboard so the problem never really arose. When the band folded, I used the synths in my home studio, but didn’t buy any new synths for quite a while. I did run with more modern synths - all with onboard e...

Re: MIDI Expression CC11 - a lesson for instrument designers
Ok - C011 is ‘expression’. Naively I assumed ‘expression’ was a more general term, certainly in a guitar context ‘expression pedal input’ is not restricted to controlling volume swells, it’s usually more akin to a foot-operated mod wheel. I'm not sure any of the (relatively small) number of synths I...

Re: MIDI Expression CC11 - a lesson for instrument designers
I don’t think lots of these default assignments are properly defined. My bugbear with controller 7 is in its interaction with patch volume. Is C07 =absolute= volume, or =relative= to the patch volume setting? My Roland/Boss gear by default maps it to absolute volume, which makes a mockery of the not...

Re: How to tell when a guitar is too expensive
I'm tempted to suggest "when it has Gibson on the headstock" :D Succumb to temptation! You know it’s true! There is no way I’m paying thousands of pounds to have someone throw keys at a perfectly good new guitar, regardless of whether he’s called Murphy. And the prices people are initiall...

Re: Guitarist+Trax -v- Keytar+Trax??
I do wonder if people have missed Wonks point somewhat here. I’m a guitarist. I naturally gurn, make flamboyant gestures and frequently hang 10 on the front of the stage. But I’m feeling the music at the time - I’m not doing something to try to look cool, and I frequently look stupid, but never fals...

Re: New Gibson London store
I usually avoid central London esp saturday. Just wanted to see how busy Gibson garage might get lunchtime. Best part is they leave you to it to noodle on lots of Guitars. Re: New Gibson London store
I did the Gibson factory tour in Memphis where they made the semi-acoustics a few years before they closed it. I didn't know they closed it. That's sad. I really enjoyed that tour. As I recall it they also had a quite sizeable shop when I went. Sadly, yes. I did the tour too - I was at a meeting in...

Re: New Gibson London store
This feels to me more like an 'Apple Store' kind of thing than a competitive retail outlet. Supporting brand loyalty and making it easy to order and buy high markup custom build instruments isn't going to really detract from Andertons or GuitarGuitar sales selling stock Gibsons and Murphy Lab custom...

Re: Dinks and relics
I'm not sure what to think about relics. I certainly wouldn't want to pay Murphy lab prices, but the very lightest ageing that makes it look like a case queen that's lived under a bed for 60 years is kind of nice, I guess. I'd prefer to have the custom shop instrument mint, agonise over every dent I...

Re: Mark Knopfler guitar price results
I dunno. If you're going to put a guitar on the wall for its back-story, Jimi's burnt one would be a very good choice. But Mr Knopfler is doing a sensible thing: cashing out at the top of the market. He will be happy The investment bankers and tech VCs who bought the guitars in a sad attempt to loo...

Re: Airstep BT/USB/midi pedals
There may well be licensing agreements with the makers of the amps they are providing pedals for. They get to use the Katana name in their own product and marketing descriptions, but the pedal has to stay dedicated to Katana use. Re: Airstep BT/USB/midi pedals
I would have thought it depends somewhat. Let's pretend they're all essentially the same under the hood. If you are making a product like this configured at the factory to work with a specific kind of device then you probably need a smaller capacity firmware chip, the chip will probably be cheaper -...
