... and PS now they are talking about a version that's not so close to the pop cover - so I guess I'll certainly have the writing credit - not sure if that makes a difference or now.

TV Theme Tune - rights and fee's
Hi All, I've been asked to wright a TV theme but based on a popular pop tune - basically a 'sound-alike' but not too close! I'm been paid a small fee for this (I'm also doing other work for the same show) but wondered what my rights where re copyright / publishing etc. Even though it's a 'sound ...

Re: Please recommend an orchestral sample library
Well - after an initial disappointment with lack of articulations I'm growing to very much like the sound and flexibility of Albion 1. Coming from an old school concept of orchestrating each section it's a little odd at first just playing 'Strings' but in practice the results sound very good indeed ...

Re: Please recommend an orchestral sample library
...well I've just bought Albion from Spitfire so I'll let you know how it sounds.
I'm guessing the lack of response if due to the fact the new website/forum is pretty clunky and not as easy as it was to find new posts etc.
Sorry but not impressed SOS

Please recommend an orchestral sample library
Hi - I"m looking to upgrade my Orchestral sample base with a new player or library. I've been using VSL limited edition which is good but things have move on an it's a bit too polite for my big dramatic productions! I really like the sound of Spitfires Albion 1 but am concerned that the 'pre-mixed ...

Re: New monitor controller recommendations
Thanks everyone - very helpful.
It's such a shame the 3.1 is such a lump to sit on the desktop but I think I'll end up with it as the newer wedge unit seems to be at least twice the price. Maybe I should wait till it hits the high street and then plumb for one or the other.
Kindest Regards,
J

New monitor controller recommendations
Hi, My Presonus Monitor Station is starting to fail in various ways (crackly pots etc) so I'm looking to upgrade to something a little more pro - something that will last and can be sailer repaired if need be down the line. There seems to be tones to choose from but I'm not looking at the cheap end ...

Re: Building a soundproof-ish timber frame structure
OK - you are on the right lines but a few major changes are needed - it's very late so I can't go into much detail here but PM if you want more explanation: 1. Don't connect the inner ceiling with the outer - just run independent joists and treat the same way as the walls. 2. I floating floor is ...

Re: Improving a loft studio room - standing waves?
Hi - I'd start by changing the studio layout.
I'd put the speakers much much closer to the 'window' wall and centralise your listening position as much as possible left and right.
re-measure and then (probably) look at bass trapping..

Re: Sigh. Stooopid ****ing Mavericks Bug
Sometimes my mix sounds great at 2am after a bottle of vino.
I listen again the next mooring and it sounds rubbish.
Clearly a Mavericks bug - I wish apple would get their act together!

Re: Just finished another mix, tell me what you think
Agree with what's been said - I think we've all been guilty of smoothing things out too much and loosing some vibe along the way. Having said that I think after a rest from the mix you can usually make a few broad strokes and get a happy medium between vibe and control. I agree the guitars have lost ...

Re: Triple glazing or double with laminate
Hi - no problem, There comes a point where it's probably worth making a custom timber unit with a much wider gap than a regular DGU - say 15cm minimum and using 15mm & 20mm glass - But of course that starts to get expensive - and only worth it if the rest of the room is on par. If you want to stay ...

Re: Triple glazing or double with laminate
The thicker the better - simple as that really. 10mm & 15mm would be the minimum I would spec. Also be careful that the windows are fit well (there's not point if there are gaps around the frame and the wall with just a thin bead of silicone 'sealing it' . Same with the actual frame - are they solid ...

Re: Triple glazing or double with laminate
Hi - No harm as long as it is proper laminated glass (you want to avoid triple glazing)
What thickness are you going for for each pane?

Re: Coldplay Hymn for the Weekend- call that a mix?
I have to dis-agree with general flow here guys. I think the mix is interesting - granted not conventional and it's clear everything is very processed and been 'through the mix' many times but I like the prominant bass drums and all the unusual percussion noises and general chaos of it. I think ...

Re: Ideal mix room shape
Forget golden ratios unless you are building from scratch and at a very high level.
Avoid boxes - i.e. 15 x15 or whatever....
The bigger the better
Higher ceilings are good
Try and not have any dimension a multiply of another (length, width, height)
Symmetry makes sense if possible

Re: Big Vocal Sound (Input Please!!)
Also -
1. de-ssed to my ears
2. compressed the something like an 1176 or similar
3. EQ - a nice 'bump' at around 200-400Hz
4. Nice subtle verb
5. lots on 'micro' editing and no doubt level rides etc
6. Good mic technique in the first place....
7. Maybe some tape emu or saturation....

Re: What is the most professional piano plugin?
I'm not entirely sure that it will get you that Happy Mondays 'Step On' sound or make your track sound any better... but I suspect the 'most professional piano plug-in' might be one of these , set up as an external instrument in Nuendo and miked up with this plugged into one of these. You might ...

Re: New Studio Build
I'm not talking triple leaf - that's a different thing altogether.
Putting multiply layers of plasterboard (or other sheet materials) creates a single leaf with a mass of X. The more layers the more mass. This is common practice in studio builds the world over.

I think it's illegal to use build in sounds from DAWS on chart records - something to do with the EU or MU.

Re: What is the most professional piano plugin?
Thats is the bog standard Logic piano - Yamaha I think - EQ'd bright.
Your overthinking it - it's not about the 'best piano sound' as it's totally un-natural.
Isn't it odd people always want a sound that's been on a hit record! LOL
