I'm not surprises. I only saw him once at Glastonbury 2000, and he seems very quite unassuming.

Not so sure about the 'dynamic' bit
I'll prolly be along between 9 and 10 - to avoid the rush hour traffic.

Re: Farfisa Find.

Very interesting drawings. Only a few specialist chips, the rest are pretty standard. I would hope it will be mostly a matter of copious switch cleaner and cap changes to get it tickety-boo.

Tony, can you print off a copy of that PDF? My printer seems to be having a bit of a 'sleep' :(

Re: Moog Muse

OK, I was playing a bit dumb, but for (I think) a good reason. I wanted to know what other people think of as an oscillator!

The reason for that is I see people online getting excited about having (say) a whole 4 oscillators. I'm used to seeing at least 16 (but mostly only using 4 or 5).

They're the source. The lifeblood.

Go read some Gordon Reid. All 63 parts. Then read them again.

Well I probably would if I could find them, but from what I've seen so far, I'm not expecting any surprises.

Re: Moog Muse

Not having much familiarity with {cough} conventional {cough} synths, I get quite confused when people talk about number of oscillators. For a start, what exactly do you call an oscillator? Is this something that operates per key? Or is it in some sort of matrix arrangement? I'm coming from a backgr...

Re: Farfisa Find.

OK, I'm a bit perplexed, and it's my first time using a Farfisa, there seems to be no output volume knob, but there is a volume pedal connected via a 3 pin DIN plug, this doesn’t seem to be working, just tested it. It sounds great through the internal speakers, if a bit noisy, hum. It also has an &...

Re: Idiocy

If, as DM says, they can be retrofitted surely they can also be 'retroremoved' and whatever blanking mechanism fitted in their place? Yes they can be. You remove any sticky out bits, then get a thin strip of plastic trim and the adhesive from the likes of B&Q, cut it to fit the full width of th...

Re: MIDI Expression CC11 - a lesson for instrument designers

I think part of the problem is that the MIDI spec doesn't define exactly what they mean by 'expression'. From time to time I've MIDI-learned it to perform a combination of filter cutoff, and reduced volume range on brass sounds.

Re: How Can I Switch The Voltage On ALTO TS415 Speaker From 120 Volts To 240 Volts?

I'm grateful for the discussion. I guess sometimes getting no solution from others really is the catalyst you need to learn more about a subject matter and create a solution for yourself. You were right to persist carefully, but you still got lucky. That voltage calculation I gave is correct, for a...

Re: MIDI Expression CC11 - a lesson for instrument designers

The default functions are fine. Any half decent softsynth should be able to re-assign them if it wants to, with nothing in the middle interfering. Also, zipper noise? These days, are there really synths that are so poorly designed, with processors so under-spec they can't handle interpolation? As th...

Re: MIDI Expression CC11 - a lesson for instrument designers

Interesting. I just dived into the Yoshimi code (here be dragons) and it seems we get it wrong-ish. The individual part insertion effects are applied before expression, but the system effects are applied afterwards. However... You can MIDI-learn the incoming expression value, route it wherever you l...
