Re: New project -- Berlin Chiptune -- journal and audio samples

Speaking of noise, Yoshimi has three types; white, pink, spot.
White and pink are pretty standard implementations but spot noise can be quite interesting. It's basically white noise randomly chopped up, giving it a gritty sound.

Re: Most accurate monitors under £700

One attribute of the Neumanns that I enjoy is the sound-stage (if that’s the right name). It’s the closest I’ve heard to a realistic concert replication for acoustic and classical music. So it’s not just accuracy. I'd go as far as to say that you can't call a speaker a monitor unless a pair of them ...

Re: Yoshimi Goes to LAC

Just want to add that the audio does bounce around quite a lot. When making the presentation I had no idea what the microphone level was, and also the position of the speakers meant I could hardly hear them. I don't like to be critical but the people managing the system didn't seem to be very ...

Re: Yoshimi Goes to LAC

For anyone interested all the talks and workshops have been uploaded to the link below. The Yoshimi workshop is number 3.
There's a bit of a delay to the start so it pays to nudge the playing index along a bit.

Re: Ride Of The Valkaries (from MIDI file)

I'm having rather a 'dry' spell at them moment, so thought I'd take a diversion and just grab some free MIDI files and see what I could do with them. It seems to be working out quite well :)

Ride Of The Valkaries (from MIDI file)

This has been quite hard work, and I'm still not happy with it, but thought I'd give it an airing.
Re-organising the tracks into a Yoshimi-friendly form has been {cough} educational {cough}

Re: New album release -- Sonata For Electonic Device

I tried to play these all together as you said, but my browser (or bandcamp) simply won't allow this - even when I start completely separate copies of the browser :(

Re: Farfisa emergency

Well, I'm off to NFFF tomorrow, but will be returning Monday. If you like I can divert to your place on the way back and drop off a somewhat substantial wodge of drawings for it :) Thanks a lot Will, that would be very useful for the new owner, he collects Farfisa's and has restored them before, I ...

Re: Farfisa emergency

Well that's a good idea... except... You haven't seen the size of my place. There would be two choices. The kitchen table or the cellar. The cellar is not very dry and has accumulated {mmmfty}{mummmf} years worth of junk - and I don't even know how I could get rid of it. Sorting and storing the few ...

Re: Farfisa emergency

I had fully intended to fix it. I've manged to find quite detailed drawings and none of the problems are show-stoppers. However, so far it's been impossible to find days when Tony is at home!

It's a long way to go, just to find nobody's there

Re: Name of the wind -- harnessing wind and weather as voltage sources

That has real possibilities.
A suggestion:
Use something like an Arduino to turn the pulses into a MIDI stream. That way you can easily experiment with various synths etc.

Re: AI Search Engine's responses are often confidently wrong

If you need to check the results you might as well calculate them yourself. The musical scale is an easy one. All you need to know is that A4 is 440 Hz and the interval is the 12th root of 2. A modern calculator would breeze through that without needing a power station for the energy, and the answer ...

Re: Which organs were used in these vintage recordings?...

Some of the older organs used 12 separate LC oscillators for the top octave, then simple dividers and filters for the lower octaves. FWIW You can easily turn a square wave into a triangle one, and with careful choice of resistors and back-to-back (germanium) diodes you get a reasonable approximation ...

Re: Best way of stopping (minimizing) sound getting through to neighbours

Depending on how old the house is, the ceiling can be a surprisingly 'efficient' transmission medium. I have this situation here. The neighbour's ceiling is the same dimensions as mine. When they have their ceiling fan running I can hear it quite clearly - especially if I stand in the middle of the ...

Oh dear... Is this a can of worms I see before me? I don't think anyone can actually say what is 'original'. It's just too fuzzy a description.
