Re: Windows 11 & Firewire & A&H ZED R16?

Currently it’s hooked up to an A&H ZED R16 mixer connected via Firewire, with a Lycom PE-107 card installed in the PC. This setup is absolutely reliable but I’d like to replace the PC and retain the A&H desk. FW development support was dropped about 10 years back, but the supporting drivers are sti ...

Re: Multiple ssd mini enclosure

Something like the Icy Box IB-3740-C31 from a brand I know, although there's various generic ones on all the normal marketplaces. Firm called Cenmate jumped out as having a few solutions, but I don't know anything about them.

Re: PC Upgrade questions

Scouser wrote: Mon Jul 14, 2025 11:34 am From some subsequent posts it seems I should be considering AMD ? If I could lose the proposed cooling system and re use my Noctua that would be another saving.

Given the current pricing of the 265K I would be looking there, but it's dependent on what DAW package(s) you're running.

Re: PC not starting up ?

Oh! Well, I did mention my numptiness James. I thought TB and USB had more or less converged on the "C" connector but that you needed the TB protocol (chips?) on the MOBO to take full advantage? In spec USB4 should also do TB3 natively, but only the Intel controllers fully meet spec this generation ...

Re: No peaking in CPU/Memory usage still I get dropouts in DAW

Win 10 was designed for SSD's, so I can see why that would be a problem given it's a horrible user experience when run off a HDD.

It'll run pre-fetch/search indexing in the background which tend to chew both drive and processing time. Have you disabled both?

Re: A Windows 11 laptop

The laptop will have Windows pre-installed. I've installed Windows 11 for other people, and setting up a local account is something that is done when installing. Microsoft don't really want you to have a local account and it's a bit of a hack, getting more so as Microsoft try to close loopholes. If ...

Re: No peaking in CPU/Memory usage still I get dropouts in DAW

Ataport.sys on looking it up on Microsoft seems to be hard drive related, either the drive or the interface chips. You could always try and find the latest hardware drivers for your motherboard, or reload them if the same version(s) as you have. That's the result underneath the faulting indicator ...

Re: No peaking in CPU/Memory usage still I get dropouts in DAW

The DPC result itself is fine, great even in fact. Your failure is ISR related, something on the hardware side is stalling the system when it's a failure on that specific part of the test. https://www.resplendence.com/latencymon_interrupt2process The test results don't really give a smoking gun ...

Re: Can I re-use my PCIe 2 x16 Cards in a New Build PC?

I have a couple of Nvidia GeForce cards, the GT 730 and GT 1030, and was wondering if these can be used in my New build i9 PC? 1030's are still available new, I'm pretty sure all of the 730's were similarly PCIe. Windows should allow you to mix and match cards without fuss, it's quite common to run ...

Re: Is there PC computer hardware that doesn't play well with Cubase?

As you note, an older model but it still has driver support for current OS builds and Steinberg units are in general one brand where I've never really come across any compatibility issues. I would hazard that it should keep on working fine for you.

Well in reality I have not seen that. The entire i9 machine with cooling, 32GB RAM uses 80 Watts when rendering and quite a bit less much of the time. Personally given the processing power that machine has that seems pretty reasonable to me. How's the individual CPU core load whilst you're ...

Can be in a few instances on AMD, but Intel is generally fine. Older interfaces can sometimes be fussy with newer USB variants, but if you've something from the last 10 years it's likely all fine.

I thought one had to run it for hours to be sure, 10 min is much nicer. One question I've always had - in situations like this does one run LatencyMon with the DAW on or off? Pretty much everything is going to fire in that time period that may be to blame, so it should be long enough. 20 mins ...

Some of the DAW packages still haven't received optimization for the latest Intel P/E chip design, but Steinberg on the other hand has been putting the legwork in and tweaking away for it.
