Re: Recording Fender Twin with 2 Mics

Interesting stuff thanks chaps. I realise it's probably slightly academic, was just curious. Will check out the artilce too.

Recording Fender Twin with 2 Mics

Aloha, It never really dawned on me before but the Fender Twin amp has 2x12" speakers partly to give a supposed wider sound-field. Has anyone here tried recording it with two mics, one on each speaker and hard panned? Curious how it might sound and whether it's worthwhile. I will test this at some ...

Re: Multiple Input Switcher Pedal

Thanks all, interesting stuff. The guitars and even Rhodes are passive instrument level so ground shouldn't be a problem. But the sources from the interface might be an issue... I use the Orchid amp-interface which has a ground lift, would this be sufficient? Or would I still need an isolator or ...

Or if you don’t need to use a footswitch, you could make your own selector using a Hammond enclosure, 5 jack sockets and a 4-way rotary selector switch.

You've obviously never seen me solder a cable or ice a cake before!

Nice idea though...

Could work... you just use the returns as inputs and leave the sends empty? Thin form factor could sit discretely on the top row.

Multiple Input Switcher Pedal

Hi, I have an ABY pedal but that's only good for two inputs. I have four sources I regularly switch between in the studio: Guitar x2, Fender Rhodes and a re-amper via the computer. I can't see a 4 input source (and 1 output) pedal that will do this off the shelf? How would this be best managed ...

Re: Fender amp Footswitch intrigue.

No point looking any further than the reverb tank until you’ve put a multimeter on the input and output connections and checked for an open circuit. More likely to be on the output than the input to the tank. Or open it up to check for broken wires. I do have a multimeter, but in all honesty I have ...

It's the 65 Twin Reverb (85w).

Re: Fender amp Footswitch intrigue.

Not wishing to thread hijack but I was thinking about this the other day on my Fender Twin 65 Deluxe. I've always had problems with that amp (it was B-stock) but it settled down after countless tube replacements. However, the spring reverb has recently packed up and it's not the phono connectors or ...

Re: Field Recording & Blumlein Mount

This post blew up a bit! Just to rein it in a little I only have a matched pair 414s to work with (and don't want to hire anything). I can also track on the H4n easily enough (though battery is an issue with +48v), or I could take out my MacBook and NI interface, but it starts to get cumbersome in ...

Re: Field Recording & Blumlein Mount

I suspect it sounds thin and distant because the sound sources were relatively distant, and the LF is probably rolled off to minimise handling and wind noise. It might be worth checking the recording settings in the zoom recorder in case there are better options. Obviously, C414s are much better ...

Field Recording & Blumlein Mount

Hello... I took out my H4n Pro today to capture pine-wood wind and it sounded great in situ but the recorded results are a little thin and distant. I'm wondering whether taking my 414s out will yield better results? If I do that I'd quite like to use them as a Blumlein pair as it gives such a great ...

Re: Plugin Manufacturers: Volume Peak Overloads!

I don't have an issue gain staging my plugins and projects at all. Just occasional heart palpitations when scrolling through presets with faders at unity :/ totally unnecessary.

Curious what you mean here? When the plugin engines overload like this, it pushes the meters in Logic into the red. Is this not defined as clipping in the DAW? Or something to do with the 32 bit float...?

I've come here to moan as I thought I might find some like minds... How many plugin manufacturers and preset designers cause volume peaking and overloads by default?! I was using mine for the Arturia Keylab 88 (15 kg) on the bottom tier and Novation impulse on the top: https://i.imgur.com/yc7iiJx.jpeg And it felt really stable. I can't honestly understand how/why anyone uses X stands. They'e stable sure, but have you tried sitting at one with your legs under it?! Or using a pedal? Re: Studio Lighting

This is proving to be something of a hornets nest... Ok thanks. I'm surprised this isn't more clearly defined by manufacturers as it makes a big difference!

The one you've posted looks close to what I want, though a touch big, so I will try this manufacturer for smaller versions.

Re: Studio Lighting

Thanks for all the input on this. To be clear, is it the lamp/transformer or the bulb that imposes the limitation?

I think I want to install a 4-way spot light ceiling light but I can't find anything specified about flicker free or quite what to look for to avoid it!
