Re: Can you suggest a set up for a "live" studio 5 piece acoustic recording
I think it depends on the band, the room and the style. Players may be at their most confident performing as if live, but if you or they can’t get balanced you may find separate mikes gets better results. Pan-pot stereo is perfectly valid but it’s not entirely natural and it’s nice to be able to cho...

Re: Amplifying a classical guitar
If you think feedback will be on holiday, a Line Audio omni on an elegant mini-stand should do the job without breaking the bank or being tied to the axe and useless elsewhere. But the classical guitar forums and bloggers have a lot to say about mikes; mostly in relation to recording, but you will b...

Re: Any experts on setting up a 5.1 or atmos that can switch the sub to 2.1?
I had this issue (sort of) at a much more humble level. I changed the front l/r pair to smaller boxes to improve viewing, whereupon I needed the sub included for stereo listening. I have a fairly basic Yamaha AVR, so if I engage Pure Direct for music sessions I get no sub from the sub output. But th...

Re: Good But Cheap Audio Interface With Optical Input
It’s a really useful tool. I ran my aged dbx386 into the optical in as SPDIF to get two extra mic inputs before I splashed out on an ASP880. All set up now for the foreseeable - I can envisage using more than four mikes, but not more than the ten I can use now if I choose to.

Re: Moving swiftly on - new classical recording rig project
I know the church where the last recording was done pretty well, and for nearly two decades played in the band I was recording. The snag is that it’s the round Holy Sepulchre church in Northampton - the actual “Crusader Round” is used for concerts, leaving about 2/3 of the whole building empty. Add ...

Re: Good Pipe Organ Plugin Instrument for Black Friday?
I play our village church organ when nobody else can or will. It’s basically only a single keyboard with a bottom octave of pedals, so I don’t have to pretend I can play the D minor toccata and fugue, Suite Gothique or the Vidor toccata. I have used my Nord baroque organ (on the C2D) in there but on...

Re: Moving swiftly on - new classical recording rig project
Mine’s a TalentCell but I can’t remember the output. Don’t think it’s as big as yours. As you say, the output tends to be a bit nominal.

Re: Moving swiftly on - new classical recording rig project
Well, they sound fine to me, but at 67 I may well be missing a nuance or two. My other preamps are Audient (iD14ii/ASP880) so I wouldn’t necessarily expect to equal them. On the other hand, the Rubix is not unduly expensive, is built like a brick outhouse, runs fine on my iPad and with my powerbank ...

Re: Moving swiftly on - new classical recording rig project
Just a quick update - I’d say progress report but it feels a bit OTT. I’ve recorded a wind-band concert since all this discussion, for which I put up an o c c o array of Line Audio mics (CM3s in the middle, slightly wider than NOS but I fluffed the measurements as I’d actually been hired to do PA an...

Re: Which open back headphones for mixing/mastering, coming from DT 770 pro 250 ohms
I bought a pair of the K702s, after a recommendation here, for listening while the rest of the household is asleep. They’re much more plausible than the 770s I also have (250 ohm) so I seldom use the Beyers now. If I want to look elegant with cans on I choose B&O H4s, but otherwise, the 702s are...

Re: Immersive audio recording for grand piano?
So I don’t have to walk around with tie-clip mikes on my glasses any more? I’ll buy that. You can probably tell I’ve not had a lot to do with immersive audio. On the other hand, confronted by a new technique, my first instinct is to get somewhere near with the kit and methods I have already. In your...
