Re: the latest Behringer-gate
I'd like to see someone clone or manufacture a proper hardware sampler. For years I had a Roland W30 which mangled sound in a glorious way and gave the user the choice of creating multisampled instruments and also using loop-based and one shot samples. Of all the samplers that can be bought these ...

Re: Using SPDIF input on Roland Quad Capture
It appears that you need to send a digital SPDIF signal to the SPDIF inputs in order to use the additional inputs. So you need an analogue to digital convertor and possibly mic preamps. I've just noticed that the Zoom U-44 interface offers a stand-alone A/D and D/A function and they're being sold ...

Re: Using SPDIF input on Roland Quad Capture
Thanks for all the suggestions folks.
Hugh, I think that £3300 to expand a sub £200 interface is overkill - may as well get a new interface for that outlay

Using SPDIF input on Roland Quad Capture
Hi all, I have a Roland Quad Capture which I'm very happy with. I would like to use the additional inputs, but there's nothing I know of on the market that will allow me to do this. I only want to be able to use all 4 inputs on the card - any ideas/suggestions (other than buying another interface ...

Re: Performance mode on the Roland XP30
Thanks Desmond. I thought that was the case. Not a massive problem for me to be honest as I tend to use the performance mode to split and layer for live performance, I tend to record parts individually so I can use the patch effects fully.
Thanks again

Performance mode on the Roland XP30
Greetings fair forum folk. Playing with the performance mode settings on my XP-30 earlier, it seems that the only part that drums can exist on is part 10, even if I don't use general MIDI (which I don't - I avoid it like the plague). The reverse of this is also true in that part 10 cannot be used ...

Re: Dreaded 60Hz usb cycling hum
The Roland Octa Capture should have a ground lift switch on the rear (the Quad Capture certainly does). I had this problem on a previous machine and flipping the switch did the job. Not wishing to state the obvious, but have you tried doing that?

Re: New OLED Displays in synths
Does anyone know if there's a "replacement" OLED display I can put in my aged W-30?
The backlight in it is dead and these displays look lovely.

Re: Sub-bass feedback during gig - help!
Just heard back from the venue on this (having contacted the in house sound engineer) and the cause of the issues we had were down to the vocalist not having enough of himself in the monitors and subsequently cupping his mic and holding it too close to his mouth to try and make himself sound louder ...

Good stuff. Let us know how it goes next time!
Certainly will. Had a chat with vocalist and agreed he's getting 50 lashes the next time he "cups" the mic.

Re: Sub-bass feedback during gig - help!
Thanks to all for replying. Mic-wise we were using a couple of SM58s, and had monitoring via stage wedges and two side fills. To compound the strange goings on sound-wise, we also got what sounded like digital clipping in several places - the venue has a digital desk (I think it is a brand new ...

Sub-bass feedback during gig - help!
I have quick question for you live sound gurus. First a bit of background: I play keys in an Electro/EBM duo and at our most recent gig we had an amazing soundcheck where everything was perfect, only for the sound on the performance to be plagued with sub-bass feedback, which wasn't apparent during ...

Re: i3 laptop and Behringer U-control for basic DAW?
I run Sonar X1d on an Acer i3 laptop with a Roland Quad Capture interface, and am able to run projects with 30-odd audio tracks and FX without any difficulty. The CPU is fine - I run at least 10 softsynths per project before I render to audio for mixing (just something I do to police myself from ...

Akai ME-35T backup battery
My dear old ME-35T Audio/MIDI trigger has served me well for the past 20 years (I bought it from new way back back when), but now seems to be suffering from dementia, and forgets its settings when powered down. I guess that the unit has some form of backup battery, but as I don't have a service ...

How can I create (or simulate) oscillator sync on a Roland XP30?
I use an Alesis Micron live primarily for a hard-sync lead sound where the pitch wheel modulates the pitch of OSC2, not unlike a Moog Prodigy. My Alesis has developed a fault in the left output, and I need to be able to quickly create a similar type of sound using my Roland XP30, which does not have ...

Sonar X1 OMF export issue
Not sure if this a PC or Mac issue - it kind fall between the two. I use Sonar X1 as my DAW of choice, and have recently begun a collaboration with a friend who uses Logic Pro 9. Both Sonar and Logic claim to support OMF files, so I thought it would be a doddle to export the audio in my Sonar ...

Weird issues with MESA and S2000
I've posted this over on the Akai Forums, but wondered if those who still do battle with old Akai samplers could offer any insight as well.... Re: Old Akai Sampler software

I've followed the steps detailed here MESA and Windows XP to get MESA working with Windows XP - it's installed but is ...

The DX 100 is midi capable. Check if it's set to Local off like James suggests above. Also, see if it will drive another piece of MIDI gear or if it responds to external MIDI...

Re: Trying to put together a compact (simple) recording suite. Some help please...
Try Red5 Audio for mics. they tend to come in a case with a shockmount.
Here's a link to their range of condenser mics:
Red5 Audio condenser microphones
Something like an RV8 or RV10 should do the job - the RV6 is really good if your budget is uber-tight.
