Re: Guitar patches on keyboard don't seem like they would work as background rhythm guitar accompanying a real guitarist
All of the above - plus: Instrument sound is often about articulation as much as timbre. The reason a guitar sounds like it does is because those are the techniques that fall “to the hand” with the opportunities/restrictions of the instrument. With care and study you can emulate this but it will be m ...

Re: Trying to figure out what mic would work for this situation
I’m currently amusing myself with a Rode ME clip-on wireless mic which has mic elements on both the transmitter and receiver, allowing a camera-person to conduct an interview with someone across the room wirelessly while their own mic is connected to the camera with a cable. I’ve been considering oth ...

Re: Need the largest Triple silicone flange earplugs available
Maybe “too deep” is just right. Is it a problem with getting them out when you need to?
For the record, I use Vic Firth plugs which work well for me and I usually have problems getting IEMs to seat properly because I have “deep” ear shells.

Re: Best way to record 30 kids with clarity?
Wish me luck….! Luck and a good acoustic environment. :) Forgive my wariness but I’ve had some difficulty in the past getting kids to sing along to backing tracks. The most useful were those with a decent rhythmic aspect, the least helpful were the ones with grouped voices that sound like the kids t ...

Re: Snake Oil
Dear colleagues, music lovers I think that the conversation requires a deeper approach. Ok, we love deeper, fire away The rest is up to the user preference. Thank God, we live in an era where companies like AST are able to exist! Long live the creativity and the innovation! Don Kopanieff. I’m a ...

Distortion can be beautiful, but it’s still distortion.

We tested them by asking audiophiles and a number of professional recoding studios to use them. The results were unanimously very positive. So, our processes are 100% scientific, and we have worked really hard to make these products, with the help of laboratories and very qualified people. I can’t h ...
Re: Lithium AA’s in radio mics - any thoughts?
Thanks, A.
I did see that. I suspect there’d be a recharge between every event.

Lithium AA’s in radio mics - any thoughts?
Eternal question, can I get one more gig out of these, apparently fine, single use alkie AA’s or replace them with fresh ones and to hell with the planet? No, wait - rechargeable lithiums, you say? https://www.amazon.co.uk/PHOTOOLEX-Rechargeable-Batteries-Discharge-Integrated/dp/B0DMT29WF6/ref=cm_cr_ ...

Re: Behringer price alert
Conversations on the subject tended to be quite analytic, constructive and focussed on finding language that was more representative of truth, hence the term “correct”, which is a good engineering concept. Language is sound, like the rain, a babies cry, the wind, and it is just as meaningless, one s ...

Re: Behringer price alert
It's not very nice to acknowledge but whatever conundrum confronts you at the end of the day it'll either be fixed of f*cked. The term politically correct means something entirely different. I first came across it in the ‘70s when it was used to challenge any statement which was based on a ...

Re: Do you jump in?
Wise words above. Another aspect to consider - how sure am I about what the particular problem is. If I wade in and start deconstructing the mix to troubleshoot some likely issues I’d expect a bit of pushback, if I (with permission) can lean over and nudge the specific gEQ fader that I’ve ID’d on my ...

Re: Need help with really strange noise on vocal recording.
It can be viewed as anything between learning new techniques to general maintenance… Agree strongly. You could, of course, discover your voice and how to avoid destroying it by just singing lots and observing what happens, you may be lucky. With a decent vocal coach you have a native guide with a m ...

Re: Sending 5 drum mics to one port on a small mixer for a live show?
Omnidirectional condenser mic on a live stage? You realise this is a drum kit - being played by students, not a ukelele orchestra? You make a good point, though, that the answer depends entirely on the question. If a little bit of kick support is all that’s required then the rest is superfluous. I’v ...
