Re: Hurtsfall Live
Late to report but I've been in Whitby for the April Goth Weekend. We played the Shadow Factory event at The Crafty Cove on Friday night with bright new things Social Youth Cult and local stars Westenra. Sold out gig which wasn't that surprising given the line-up. The Crafty Cove is an interesting ...

Re: Electroacoustic music samples
One of the best ways of generating weird random sounds is to use an audio editor such as Audacity that has the ability to treat any file as an audio waveform and just feed it various documents until you get sounds that you like and can use. I created a whole piece for a composition challenge by ...

I think you need to have a dropbox account and be signed in to see the images.
It's better to use an image hosting service and IMG tags so anyone can see them.

Re: Couch guitars
I don't really have a couch guitar but only one of mine will stand up without the help of a guitar stand so it's got to be my Gus G1

Re: Is a separate keyboard amp generally a good or bad idea?
My band is a three piece - keyboards, bass/guitar, vocals with drums and second keyboards on backing. We have completely dispensed with all personal backline monitoring and everything goes direct into the PA. It was made both the FoH and on-stage sound much more manageable and clearer. However all ...

Re: Hurtsfall Live
The building is otherwise full of hard surfaces including uncovered concrete floors so it needs all the help it can get. When we arrived there was a band sound checking in the other part of the venue downstairs and the sound was excellent despite the fact that the place was empty. Everything about ...

Re: Hurtsfall Live
On Saturday 5th April we were upstairs at The Corporation in Sheffield supporting Deviant, Zeitgeist Zero and Iamimperfect. This was a gig that had to be rescheduled from last year on account of Jay from Deviant breaking an ankle. Really well run venue and evening with a proper stage manager making ...

Re: MS making harder to install W11 with a local account.
Slowly but surely I am inching towards MacOS. I think you need an Apple account for that so it’s not much different to MS in that respect, but I feel that MS’s intentions are data scraping and filling my screen with upsell popups. Apple may be the same, but judging by my wife’s experience it doesn’t ...

Re: Guitar Tab - Generator
If you were to input the guitar part using a guitar with a hexaphonic pickup could the MIDI channel information be used to show which string is being played when converting to TAB?

Re: Garden Room Studio Begins (Now I'm in trouble)
In the 90s I was involved with the design and production of the brochure for the Lotus Esprit S4. At the beginning they spent money as if it was going out of style and then it looked as though they ran out so various compromises had to made at the artwork and printing stages. Lotus spent days ...

Re: Good free soft synths
I just use the synths that come free with Logic. Most of the time Retro Synth will produce the sound that I am after, and on those few occasions when it won't ES2, Alchemy or Sampler will.

Re: GAK have closed their shop
You really have to try out a keyboard or a guitar in my opinion, so this is a terrible shame. I've found that trying guitars or basses in a store is pointless exercise unless it is to rule them out as not being suitable/comfortable for my playing style. The last time I bought a bass on the strength ...

Re: Synth sounds that make you play something specific
I very rarely go to the synths until I have a pretty good idea of the notes I'm going to play and the sort of sound I want for those notes. As I implied in another thread, trying to shoe-horn a sound I've heard elsewhere into one of my songs is nearly always a futile exercise. By the time I've ...

Re: Mastering Recommendation
I'd be happy to recommend either of the people who did masters for us even though we didn't chose to use theirs for the single - Tim Debney at Fluid Mastering or Pete Maher - as there was so little to choose between them. It's been an interesting exercise and, certainly for the mastering services we ...

Re: Mastering Recommendation
It's one of those things where you always wonder if someone else could be doing a better job than yourself, and it's gratifying to know that for a one-off track we are doing a comparable job (in our opinion) to a professional who is charging £100 at song. We may still get the album, when it is ...
