Re: Best USB-C dock for iPad - need suggestions
USB docks are about as utilitarian as a thing can get! I'm not sure what is to compare. You pick the ports you need and buy the closest match! That said, it sounds like it is the DAC that is the important bit to you. Actually it sounds like you really want a decent digital headphone amp. -if I was ...

Re: Rick Beato v Universal Music Group
My understanding is (admittedly from watching his videos)that the issue seems to be that in YT world, earnings for content are all-or-nothing. Either you keep the per view payments or it is demonitised and the payments go to artist of the concerned clip. Neither seems fair. Hence legal proceedings ...

Re: Rick Beato v Universal Music Group
Just playing Devil's advocate and modetate cynic!.. because I also do love his YT content but.... I say he IS exploiting other artists to some degree...exploiting is a strong word, maybe he is using the leverage and draw of the big names he analyses to attract views on his channel on which he ...

Wireless IEMs and cue tracks
My band are interested in the idea of using IEMs with a cue track. I've looked at various radio units over the years, but decided it's too much finacial commitment. We need 5 headsets, possibly 6 if we find a keyboard player. We found these wireless digital units on amazon which would mean we could ...

Re: Looking for a good preamp pedal
I'm looking at a similar solution myself so I don't have to lift my amp to and from rehearsals! £300 is pushing it a bit, the Laney and Blackstar are in the £350-400 bracket. The Hughes and Kettner is £130 on line at the moment, but is considerably less power. Here is my short list Laney lionheart lo ...

Re: Best USB Audio Interface with XLR Ins and Outs?
What would the 'best' look like to you? With modern day interfaces. It is very difficult to get anything 'bad', particularly if you stick with the more prominent brands. Anything you buy will be orders of magnitude better in the fidelity stakes than what the Beatles had! Simply match the connections ...

Re: Choosing an amp sim / multi FX
Depending on what you want actually need, another option might be to look at a pedal board amp. That is something I am looking at currently. Perhaps something like Blackstar Amped 3 which has the basic tones covered (Marshall-esque, Fender-esque and Hi gain-esque) all controllable by midi and ...

Re: Tuning ambiance ?
No he is simply processing an identical signal and sending that to the reverb, but only sending the subsequent wet reverb to the main mix. The dry processed identical signal is not sent to the main mix, it is purely to drive the reverb. So in the mix you have the original dry signal and only the ...

Re: Hum eliminators - what drives their price?
So the G4M subzero hum destroyer arrived. £20 all in, including postage. I set it up and certainly the hum is attenuated pretty significantly. 'destroyed' or 'eliminated'.... well I wouldn't go that far! It is definitely an improvement. Definitely quieter than it was, but not as quiet as guitar-amp ...

Re: Hum eliminators - what drives their price?
Thanks everyone, good information as usual! Exactly Wonks, this is for a guitar rig so based the following: The law of diminished returns in transformer quality, The fact that it is instrument signal rather than line level And that I am feeding a guitar amp which will be mostly distorted anyway, I ...

Hum eliminators - what drives their price?
I am looking to reduce hum from my TC Electronics G-System which is connected in 4CM (Some may remember my earlier thread about psudo balanced signal from a few weeks ago.) Anyway there is a revered guide for setting up the G-System, acknowledging this problem and suggests a Morley Ebtech Hum ...

Re: Windows 11 & Firewire & A&H ZED R16?
I can confirm W11 works perfectly well with firewire. I still use my Profire 2626 which is firewire via a Texas Instruments PCie firewire card.
Windows 10 and 11 have probably been my most stable set ups.

Re: Does a bigger case actually run quieter if you’re using the same number of fans?
Is there any reason you particularly want air cooling? Be Quiet! have the Silent Loop 3 liquid cooler. From what I understand, with liquid cooling you'll always have pump whine from the liquid pump - so there will always be that noise. But with air cooling it can be quieter (with for example noctua ...

Re: Does a bigger case actually run quieter if you’re using the same number of fans?
Dave makes some great points about resonant panels and there are kits you can buy with rubber washers and so on to dampen those vibrations. But the central message is really to try and remove the 'franticness' from the airflow. Imagine a river flowing through a canyon, all white water and noisy ...

Re: Does a bigger case actually run quieter if you’re using the same number of fans?
If you want small and quiet, the look at liquid cooling solutions.
But it is not just about the CPU, GPU and PSU, you will need some ventilation for all the non-primary components on the MOBO.

Re: Does a bigger case actually run quieter if you’re using the same number of fans?
It's about being able to fit a larger heatsink and being able to use lower air speed. The bigger the heatsink, more surface area, so you can get away with slower airflow. (Not less airflow, slower) So rather than having a small fan spinning really fast blowing air over a small heatsink, You can have ...

Re: Quietest PC Cases, for Music Production PC Build?
Yes, that is a consideration. But we used to use commercial grade components in ruggedised military COTS equipment where the AMBIENT was 85C. The elevated temps on thier own are not so much an issue, it is high temps and turning on and off often and running in harsh environment starts to give ...

Re: Quietest PC Cases, for Music Production PC Build?
In my day job, I am an Electronics cooling engineer. This is more about strategy rather than brands. You need to think about where the noise comes from and how best to cool the various chips, but mainly the processor and PSU. 1) eliminate the creation of heat. Only have the hardware you need. Eg, if ...

Re: Bodhran Trouble
Hi Shanks, I would say if you are really forced down the MIDI route, then capturing the articulations of a bodhran is going to be tricky. I would suggest that a bodhran is far more expressive than say a regular snare drum with a stick (And even they can be very expressive) so trying to trigger a ...

Re: PC not starting up ?
In fairness, I think you'll be hard pushed to buy something with worse performance! When I upgraded mine, I went from a top of the range i7 (from before i9s existed) to a middle range i5 with a significant uplift in performance. As far as the formfactor goes, unless you have a real burning desire ...

I don't know about the JSFX load, I guess it is what ever pushes it over the edge. Is there a CPU load meter in Reaper? Maybe you can see what has the most impact enabling and disabling different plugins. Its a bit like in Apollo 13 when they are trying to find the right order to re-fire up the ...

Re: Stuttering in Reaper on my cheap laptop
Ooo! A fellow Jamstixer! I'd be lost without it. Another option might be to print (record) the MIDI output from Jamstix. Then you can do away with Jamstix altogether. That might relieve the CPU burden without need to freeze. (Actually, I would just de-activate the Jamstix plugin, but leave it in ...

For what it is worth, I bought this one in the end...

It arrived today and seems very well constructed with good soldering and decent heatshrinking inside the connector and on the tails. Will report more when tested.

Re: Fender amp Footswitch intrigue.
So I recently 'won' a G System on ebay - so far very pleased with it. It has relays built in for amp channel/reverb switching which will obviously not work with the Blues Deluxe Reissue. However, an internet search shows some people are suggesting a custom cable to connect the FBDR to a conventional ...
